Help with Mexican Citizenship

lp2578 - 6-24-2008 at 09:44 AM

Hola Nomads,
I am a U.S. citizen and my father who lives in Magdalena, Sonora has his duel citizenship. My dad was born in Mexico, emigrated to the US 50+ years ago and retired and now lives in Magdalena. I am looking for someone in the L.A. / Orange Co. area that can help me attain my Mexican citizenship. I understand that I have certain rights due to my dad having been born in Mexico. Any advise or direction would be appreciated, Thanks.

Call the Mexician consul in Los Angeles.

I'm sure they will help and provide the paper work.

Ip2578, Be thankful that you're a US citizen.:)Ever ask any of those Mexican citizens why they're risking their lives to get into the USA and having a chance at US citizenship?

I have a friend who received her Mexican citizenship based on the fact that her mother is a Mexican national. She is on vacation right now, so I cannot ask her questions.

So go for it and good luck Dual citizenship, IMHO, is a good thing.

:lol::lol:Good one Cypress.... Do you really think they're busting their butts to cross for citizenship? They couldn't care less about being US citizens. They just want a job.

Yes, you are entitled to it but this does not mean it's easy to get. Everyone has to go through a similar process and it's not easy. Most people think if you marry a mexican you become mexican...yes you are ENTITLED to apply for it but not automatically given it. It is getting harder all the time. If you are serious, I suggest you go to mexico city directly to apply. If you like I can U2U you the lawyer who does most of the citizenship cases around baja. (Gilberto Piñeda)

Your dad is the key to all of this.
You say he has dual citizenship, does that mean he aquired US citizenship? I ask because you say he immigrated to the US and in México that would be "emigrado".
If he is emigrado then he never aquired US citizenship and is still mexican and all you have to do is apply at the nearest mexican consulate for your Certificado de ciudadania because you are also mexicano por nacimiento. If in fact your dad aquired US citizenship, then all he has to do is apply for his "No perdida" and get his own Certificado de ciudadania, once he has that than you get yours and your'e set.
No Mexico City travel or lawyers involved, it's very simple but you have to go thru the process, fill out the forms and pay the fee.
saludos

FDT does he still have to write the test?

fdt - 6-25-2008 at 10:54 AM

No test, he's already mexican.

fdt - 6-25-2008 at 11:43 AM

Very true, when in Mexico he/she would have to be mexican or face penalties.

I received my dual citizenship this year. My father was born in Mexico and all I required was a copy of his birth certificate. I hired an attorney in La Paz and he handled everything for me. No test, very simple. You are welcome to U2U me for additional info if you like.
