Last week, some neighbors in Baja had their DirecTV HU card go down
and the dealer in San Felipe was unable to fix it and told them that
it was possible that, after 27 April, it might not be possible to any
longer program the cards. Does anyone have any factual information
regarding the problem ? I have a Dish Network system so I've not had
the continuing problems that DirecTV customers have.

The information is simply that the Football or HU card will no longer be good after today (Wed). It is that card that activates your DirecTV receiver. New cards are the P4 and P5 cards, but apparently they are currently hacker proof. Friends in La Paz lost their reception too. Solution? Get a DirectTV subscription, it won't be zapped.

I have a question that some one that might have an answer for...I took a new , registed Directv reciever down south and the only thing I could get to come up on the TV was a couple of Directv Info commercials.. A neighbor down south had the same problem and was told the new recievers have a chip to block broadcast in Baja. He took an older unit down and it works fine.... I bought a system for home, Northern Calf. , with two recievers...Have a dish that works in Baja ... but.. It ain't working????? ...any thoughts? I am paying for two units and don't want to pay for a third.... Martin-o

A lot of people are moving over to Dish Network. For the most part
it has been a much more stable system. There are a lot of Network
cities that are no longer available because their feeds have been
moved over to Spotbeam transponders which are only available if you
are within the 150 mile radius of the beam, but at present there are
network feeds in every time zone.
