Rosarito Beach eats!

Would appreciate some input please from you Rosarito Beach residents. What are some of your favorite restaurants there? Favorite taco stands? Anywhere on the water that is truly good? We were there yesterday again and always struggling to find somewhere good to eat. The one rest. on the beach that I know of has always had the most mundane, tasteless food.

Our favorite place for carnitas is on the north end of town. If you are southbound from the new Home Depot on the main street, it will be on your right. carnitas de flor Michoacán. Family owned and operated......but it's not on the beach

It's owned by the same people who own El Nido in Rosarito. They raise their own deer and you can get venison and quail.

seconded. You can eat there or use the take out window. My neighbors say the inside restrooms are beyond filthy- so I just use the take out window. When the carnitas are fresh from the fryer- nothing's better (well if you are on a low carb diet at least)

In Playas de Tijuana I like "Itos" for their seafood combination platter (there's another one in the hills of TJ too). La Estancia used to be good- but no more for sure since they relocated and lugged all their bad recipes and pewter plates across the street. Vincent's Fish Market is good for downtown- but again- no view (unless the blvd counts). I like their fried whole fried fish. El Nido is way overrated and my last meal there sucked beyond words. And the Lobster Shack closed and never reopened.

TJ Juniors on Popotla Blvd is great for a quick taco/fish & shrimp burrito stop. I take friends and relatives there for a quick bite while shopping for s - nothing fancy but very good and very cheap. JMHO of course.

I've eaten the carnitas there since the mid 60's, it was much smaller but always good.

Just north of the Roasrito Beach Hotel is a sit down restaurant with an outdoor taco bar. We always eat outside and get a chicken quesadilla and a cold beer!!!!!

Yes, it's good if the line is sort and if you like beans in your carne asada or tacos. I'm strictly a carnivore. I do like the carne asada quesadillas at any Tacos Manuel or Tacos Zurdo. Zurdo's is near the MacDonalds on the blvd in Rosarito. It's the white cheese that makes them so good- hope it's not the queso fresco variety.

I also love Flor de Michoacán...no problem with the restroom.
We used to go to Javier's for carnitas (on the other side of the highway) , but the last time we were there the meat was mostly chunks of fat. When we complained, the waiter shrugged his shoulders and said, "Yes..our cook, he is no good" :lol:

El Yaqui is excellent.....far and away my favorite tacos in Rosarito.

on the old road or Popotla Blvd. is JR's Fish Tacos, on the right, about 1l2 mile past the Pemex station. Killer fish, shrimp and marlin tacos, quesarones, fish and shrimp ceviche and now they serve red and green aguachile and cocteles. The coating on the fish and shrimp tacos is outstanding - they even reheat crisp the next day. No ocean view, but there is a beautiful screened in patio and you are only a block walk away from the beach.

Further south, about one mile after the stoplight (look for te second big OXXO sign on the right) there is Tapanco Steak house. They do it all - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Farm raised beef, lamb and venison and even the fish entrees are excellent. They are part of the El Nido chain that includes Los Pelicanos, but since they are so remote from the tourist zone, the business is mostly locals and the prices are gentler than at the more famous parent.

The staff have an eagerness to please that really adds to the dining experience. I don't know if the rooftop is set up for dining or if it has an ocean view, but there is an enclosed, landscaped open-air patio with a waterfall fountain. The small, intimate dining room is cozy, paneled in a rustic style with cirro bark, hanging gourd light fixtures and a view of the wood-fired oven.
