GENE AKA HOSE A PLEASE COME BACK AS MODERATOR

ELINVESTIG8R - 6-30-2008 at 11:23 AM

MY CONFESSION AND REQUEST FOR FORGIVENESS

HOSE A is a good man who was doing a very difficult job in here with us whiny babies located on both sides of the isle. By that I mean bad posters and those who hit the report button, me included. A few of my posts were deleted by HOSE A, and Baja Nomad and rightfully so.

Back when I was being a whiny little baby I told HOSE A to go ahead and delete my membership. He told me he did not delete profiles and admonished me that if I left I would be right back with my old user name or another user name.

He tried to get me to be a better Baja Nomad citizen but because of my false pride I was eventually temporarily banned because I would not allow myself to be dictated to. I just threw all rational thinking right out the proverbial window.

I want everyone to know that I have now thrown the false pride out the same window and recovered my rational thinking from the parking lot below where it landed. I subsequently sought forgiveness for my transgression which was given and here I am again promising to be a better citizen in Baja Nomad.

HOSE A I hereby officially and publicly apologize to you and to the owner of Baja Nomad, Doug for my error in judgment and pledge to be a better citizen. HOSE A I ask you to please reconsider your resignation as Moderator and come back in here as such where you truly belong.

Edit: I would also like to humbly ask forgiveness from the rest of the members who suffered as a result of my childish stupid rants. From here-on-out, may we all get along and have fun in here which this place was created for.

Your friend and fellow member

P.S. I moved this from another thread.

Appology arrogantly accepted, I love righteous indignation.

ELINVESTIG8R - 6-30-2008 at 12:11 PM

Just for the record, no other names have been used by me to be a member here. I was temporarily banned because I would not conform under Elinvesti8 but was granted access again under the same Elinvesti8 name when I agreed I was a bad boy and would come back as a re-born Baja Nomad. That is as complicated as it gets.

ELINVESTIG8R - 6-30-2008 at 12:12 PM

Thank you Iflyfish...

I just moved it.

Bob and Susan - 6-30-2008 at 02:18 PM

soooo...
before 11-20-2007 you NEVER posted ANYTHING on this board under another ass-umed name....

jury????

ELINVESTIG8R - 6-30-2008 at 02:43 PM

No I never operated under an ass-umed name before November 20, 2007. That was the date I first joined Baja Nomad.

Hose A says what he means & means what he says!

longlegsinlapaz - 6-30-2008 at 06:39 PM

He submitted his letter of resignation & he meant it. I sincerely appreciate & respect those who honor their word...sadly in this particular case for a lot of members, his being a man of his word means he won't likely be coming back. He's not checking U2U's & hasn't even logged on to the site at all since he resigned. You can verify that by looking at his profile to confirm his last log on date & time. He got fed up with a small number of posters who repeatedly refused to abide by the posted Board Rules & their attitude with his attempts to deal with them. Hose A was a great moderator, fair & impartial, IMO. As ELINVESTI8 has stated, Hose A bent over backwards attempting to get him to stop the highly disruptive posts he was making for the sake of the entire board, not just for Hose A's benefit. As many random posts on several threads all over the board confirm, most; but certainly not all; appreciate the thankless job he did & view his absence as a loss to the site in general, as well as a personal loss.

I personally don't feel Hose A's decision is one we have the power to change. I believe that's between Hose A & Doug. They alone know the reasons given for his resignation; despite comments elsewhere on the site to the contrary, I was not privy to the contents of his resignation letter. I do not feel he will be returning. But I'd love to be proven WRONG in this instance!!

ELINVESTI8, you & Bruce Leech & a few others I can't recall off the top of my head have made references likening hitting the Report Button to being a bad or shameful thing to do. That feature is there for a reason; I believe a great portion of the logic of it's existence is to make Doug and any other moderator's life easier so they don't have to read each & every word in each & every post. It's a helpful tool for them, and I personally have NEVER seen either Hose A nor Doug complain about anyone using the Report Button; to the contrary, I have only seen them request it be used. Yes, there probably are some who abuse the use of it, but then it becomes the moderators responsibility to make the final decision on how to handle each individual situation. We don't always necessarily agree with the outcome, but they don't delete anything just because a post was reported. They have to agree the post violated Board Rules. So please try to change how you view people who hit the report button, it's done for as many different reasons as their are unique & individual personalities on this site. It's a viable tool....not a "Tattle-Tale, Stool Pigeon, Squealer, or run to Mama or Daddy button!

Bruce R Leech - 6-30-2008 at 07:52 PM

longlegsinlapaz If you and some others could use the report button responsibly and not just hit the button every time some disagrees with you then the moderators job would be much easier.
:P

I am going to have to report you Bruce...

ELINVESTIG8R - 6-30-2008 at 07:54 PM

Longlegsinlapaz I agree with everything you said in your post. You will not get any argument out of me on this one. I am out in the open above apologizing for my conduct. I want to say for the record that I never ever once badmouthed Hose A or Baja Nomad and I would never do that. I did not do it in the public forum nor did I do it in u2u. Yes I badmouthed the “Report Button” pushers and called them names and I was wrong. If you have any influence over Hose A please ask him to come back as he is missed by many here on Baja Nomad. I will confirm Hose A had not been checking his u2u because I sent him one and he has not read it. As stated before I am sorry to all who I offended in my past childish rant. It won’t happen again. And again for the record I never used any name other than Elinvesti8. I did my penance and was accepted back with my original name.

David Elinvesti8 *******

longlegsinlapaz - 6-30-2008 at 08:25 PM

Bruce, I haven't a clue what you're basing your assumption that I'm a heavy report button pusher on, but in the 2 1/2+ years I've been on this site, I doubt if I've hit the report button 10 times...over half of those have been within the past couple weeks for crude language, abusive posts & unwarranted attacks on newbies.

If, by your standards, this is considered irresponsible use of the report button...so be it.

For your information, I've never hit the report button because someone doesn't share my views...obviously you've missed a lot of my posts; I believe I can & do state my thoughts & feelings in a pretty straightforward manner & I tend to be upfront & honest & fight my own battles with no need nor desire to call in a moderator to pull my buns out of the flames!

Consider yourself on report, Mister, for bad language. We all know what you really meant by using the word, SNIT. Thought you would sneak it past, huh? Well the thought police are on duty and you will be dealt with in a most harsh way.

Influence???? We've never met in person, but I've gotten the impression that Hose A is his own person & makes his own decisions. I respect him enough to honor the fact that I believe he made the best decision for himself & his family. I'm sad for what I feel to be a loss for the site & it's members, but he wouldn't be a man of strong principles if he didn't follow his own head & heart. Wishy-washy people aren't typically good Baja material!:bounce:

Oh boy HOW I LOVE A GOOD APOLOGY and that was a doozie Elenvesi..thank you...it's so refreshing when someone realizes their mistakes/err in judgement/snits or whatever... and repents...I like it...born again Nomad! Kinda has a nice ring...you are a better nomad for it amigo. I like you more all the time even if you wash!

David please! I am unwashed............still!

Sharksbaja - 6-30-2008 at 09:05 PM

You are in good company here as many of us have had others push our/their buttons. Heck I bug a few folks with regularity but very rarely have I reported anything.
Call it anything you want but pushing a button so some god-like figure can help you relieve yourself is pretty pathetic if the reasons are silly.
I wouldn't expect you to hit the button if I called you a private dick but some actually would. Don't kid yourself, the mod was quite tired of all the tattling(reporting). I know that for a fact.
What bothered me recently was the way a few reacted when I simply replied in a thread that I'd like to meet a certain Nomad when he comes into our restaurant.
Why would people not like that? Well ask those that push the button. THAT is the type of stupid requests a mod gets.
Some folks just cannot resist the temptation and I doubt he appreciated the constant whining from a few.

But doggon it, he will be missed. On both sides of the board.

Ahhhhhh, now I feel cleansed.

You've pretty much covered everything there is to cover. If there's anything else, it's just the lack - and/or perceived lack - of control there is (as a moderator) over members when they might need a little "cooling off" time.

That's just it. With only one or two moderators, we simply can't read everything that's posted to the board every day - or any day for that matter.

I see frequent "complaints" about certain posts, or certain people's posts that have been "allowed" to stand - like we approved it because it's still posted - when in fact we never saw it, and no one ever pointed it out to us.

If you think it's an issue, let us know. If you haven't done that, don't bother complaining to the general populace about how unfair, how biased, how... whatever... the moderating here is. That's only being part of the problem - not the solution.

I don't think I have any real complaints about anyone's use of the report button for the past six years here. Having said that, keep this in mind:

Quote:
...it becomes the moderators responsibility to make the final decision on how to handle each individual situation. We don't always necessarily agree with the outcome, but they don't delete anything just because a post was reported.
FYI: We probably agree there's an issue - and take action - with 90%+ of the posts that have (at least recently) been reported.

Regards,

:P
Bruce, I do not believe this is an accurate reflection of what's been seen/experienced.

What makes the moderator's job easy are considerate individuals who take the other readers/participants here into consideration with the remarks they're posting - as opposed to those who decide to make inconsiderate personal attacks upon the others here.

That's when the moderator's job can become quite time consuming - and a great burden.

A more minor issue - but still a problem - is members' consideration of posting to the correct forum for their topic. Mostly this is people who will post to the General Discussion forum because it has the most views - when they should've posted in another forum. Quite often items are posted to the General Discussion that should be with Questions & Answers, or in the classifieds forums for commercial purposes, etc.

So Bruce, as I sometimes like to comment....

Play nice here, or don't play at all. How's that sound to you?

Legs I’m sorry for any confusion. I just thought you knew him. That’s all I was referring too. If he does come back it will be because he does have strong principles. Heck I left once but come back and believe me there is not a wishy-washy bone in me. I was genuinely sorry I cause a problem and saw the error of my ways.

This thread is pointless now. I doubt his decision one way or the other will be swayed by further discussion on the matter (if he even was looking on which he isn't). Why not give it a rest and move on.
