WHY?

bancoduo - 7-4-2008 at 04:32 PM

Why do Mexicans have a love affair with BUD LITE. When Mexico brews some of the best beers in the world:?:

sylens - 7-4-2008 at 04:52 PM

i think it's a variant of the grass is always greener.

David K - 7-4-2008 at 07:34 PM

Everyone is impressed when you drink an 'IMPORT'!

windgrrl - 7-4-2008 at 09:22 PM

Ummm...because it's there? Actually I am wondering if it is cheaper or if there is more status in drinking foreign beer...e.g. would other international branda hold some allure, too?

jodiego - 7-5-2008 at 09:18 AM

Maybe they've just bought into all that advertising hype that has corraled the "youngsters" in this country. With all the great imports and local brewery's, I really don't understand why they drink that crap, other than it's cool and you can drink 3 cases of it before you get a buzz. One of those mysteries that George Carlin used to talk about all the time.
:?::?:

Pescador - 7-5-2008 at 12:01 PM

It is distributed by Modelo (Pacifico and Corona) but is more expensive than the other beers. We bought a couple of cases for a fishing tournament since we did not want to have to mess with the bottles. I figure I will finish it up somewhere in the next couple of years, when I am stuck in the desert, with nothing else to drink, and someone is holding a gun to my head, and I mix it with clamato.

Al G - 7-5-2008 at 12:18 PM

This is a sick thread...but I have noticed many Mexicano drink Modelo espacial "lite"...better then Bud lite but not a big streach. There is no doubt a person's age has much to do with taste. I drink Pacifico on both sides of the border, with the US Pacifico being the weaker of the two.

Barry A. - 7-5-2008 at 12:29 PM

-----taste is relative, and very personal. I don't much care for "Pacifico"--------I am a Negra Modello fan, but in a pinch I will even drink Bud Light, and I love Corona, also.

But I totally agree that it is hard to beat the Mexican beers, period.

But there are exceptions-----In the old days we used to consider "MEXICALLI" beer pure Panther Pixx, but that did not stop us from drinking it if it was icy cold.

Whats with the WE? The OLD mexicali was the best beer ever brewed. If I remember right:?: that was the only option at the "Long bar" and Hussongs:P

Budwiser

toneart - 7-5-2008 at 01:30 PM

I had never considered that maybe status or prestige were factors in why people drink Budwiser. I always figured taste was the only criterion; very bad taste. : (

I prefer the great microbrewery beers and ales that are produced in The United States. Of course we can't get those in Mexico. The closest, and 2nd best, are some of the beers you have always gotten on the mainland; Bohemia, DosXX Amber, and even Carta Blanca. They have flavor and body. Unfortunately, the two distributors have monopolies in Baja and you can't get those beers. We have to settle for Tecate (which can be tempered with limone), and thank God for Negra Modelo.

:lol::lol: OK, ok, I (only??) did not like Mexicali---------I am not sure who the "we" were-----(a few friends???) -----and I SAID that I DID drink the "old" mexicali if I HAD TO. (It grew on you as the night progressed, I suppose)

I think you are right about the "long bar" and others.

Cypress - 7-5-2008 at 01:44 PM

My taste buds lean towards Bohemia, but my wallet votes for Modelo.:tumble:Tecate is like a green draft.:)

Fred - 7-5-2008 at 01:45 PM

Hey, it leaves more of the good beer for us gringos.

What you mean "we" KimoSabe?:lol::lol:
Although, when you drank in Hussongs, you definitely were drinking with a long bar of "we", most of whom you never mentioned as friends to your wife.

vandenberg - 7-5-2008 at 01:53 PM

As a kid I worked for a summer at one of the major Dutch breweries. I distinctly remember that the export beer was brewed in different batches from the domestic ones. Some had to do with alcohol percentages and others with other restrictions.
In other words, don't judge the brews from different countries by the product sold in the States or Canada.
Not too many Mexican beers, won't even mention American ones, can favorably compete with the domestic European brews. But they're "mucho mejor" then their American competition.

Hossong's was (is???) crazy!!!! Actually, I took my first wife there once, and regretted it substantially as she was a wild and crazy kid (19) and enjoyed it too much-------kinda scared me!! I was not sure I was going to get out of there with her by my side, but in fact we lasted for 24 years.

Crazy night!!!! She was drinking taquila shooters-----a huge mistake!!! (I bet she does not even remember that) And yes, I was probably drinking the dreaded "Mexicali"-----arghhhhhhhhh.

Bohemia is great---almost as good as Negra Modelo!!!

I think I remember her. :wow: Was she the one dancing on the table:lol::lol::lol:.

I was in Hussongs a few years ago. The margaritas came premixed through one of those squirter things. YUK! Never went back.:barf:

Ahh, Bud Lite. One sip and you know it's just like making love in a canoe!

"F*#!^ing near water"!

Bajajorge - 7-6-2008 at 08:00 AM

The only thing good about Butt wiper is their horses and their super bowl commercials. Gimme some good Mexican cerveza any day.

Halboo - 7-6-2008 at 08:51 AM

I figured this one out years ago.

The reason behind the amazing consumption of icky old Bud by Mexican nationals is the BUD Girls!

Well, the girls get hotter as you scroll down. I think I could pr:O:Obably choke down a fantasy but not the product they advertise. :barf:

I think I prefer the Tecate girls. ;)
