..how well does Verizon work in different parts of Baja? During my drive to Mulege last year I did not have Verizon enable it for Mexico. My buddy
brought his mobile, his carrier is AT-T. His service worked like a charm. Mine phone was useless once we were south of Tijuana. I plan on having
Verizon "enable" my service for my drive to La Paz in August. Are there significant "dead spots?" How well does the service work in Baja?
Also, does XM radio work in Baja? It would be nice to have my ESPN Sportscenter updates....
xm works in baja everywhere

you should be able to get a signal until you cross the bridge south of el rosario. then again when you get to larger towns.
for my ATT i have to push the "0" (zero) button until it changes to a "+" plus sign. then dial the 1xxx-xxx-xxxx (area code-3digit-4digit) and the
call connects to u.s. numbers. i still can't figure out how to call a mex cell number from my u.s. fone.....

you must contact verizon and let them know you want international dialing or it won't work! Make sure you update your "prl" list before leaving the
US. Anyone on Verizon should do this once a month whether leaving the US or not.
Instructions for updating your PRL:
Power on your phone within any Verizon Wireless digital service area.
Dial *228 and then press SEND (this call is airtime free).
When prompted, press option 2 to update your phone's roaming capabilities
(the update may take up to 2 minutes).
Once completed, a confirmation message will appear to inform you that your phone has been re-programmed with the new PRL.

I used to have verizon and during three trips tried to get it working - no luck. At&T, however, I've had no problem in Mulege area, Chivato or
any other close city area.
XM works like a charm.

i tried to change my verizon plan to the north american plan yesterday. verizon does not offer the north america plan any longer. i used to change my
plan to that plan when i was going to be in baja for any length of time. verizon now offers roaming only, at $.99 per minute, incoming or outgoing
calls.
i will be looking into the plan amigo at a telcel store tommorow in tijuana. can anyone offer a location of a good telcel store?

When I go to visit Mama Espinoza in El Rosario I always stop off to buy a cheapo cell phone at Telcel and some cards on the way out of Ensenada. When
I leave to go home, I give the phone to one of Mama Espinoza's family or one of the workers at the restaurant that does not have one. I have the plan
on my Verizon phone that enables me to use my cell in Baja California but it does not work in El Rosario.

My iPhone works all over Mexico with little problems...texting, cellular, etc...works great. AT&T is the service...
All the trucks and off road cars have Sirius...wouldn't go to Baja without it...

Hey Desertbull, have you had problems with the roaming charges and the auto data stream charges or do you switch everything to manual before crossing
the border?

JaraHurd,
We've been using XM radio in both cars and in our Conception Bay home for about 7-8 years with no problems whatsoever...well, except for that VERY
strange 1-2 mile area around El Rosario...the XM Twilight Zone.
