Trip to San Francisquito

kettch42 - 7-8-2008 at 11:02 AM

Can anyone help me out with planning a trip to San Francisquito... Who do I contact (and how)? Is it necessary to make reservations? How much does it cost for a place to sleep and for food? Are there rentals for things like mountain bikes, dirt bikes, quads, kayaks, or snorkling?

Also, does anyone have any ideas or help or random connections about getting across the sea of Cortez, from Guaymas/San Carlos, Sonora to San Francisquito? Maybe someone who'd be willing to be hired to fly to passengers sometime in September...

Thanks in advance!

aero servicios de guererro negro does whistle stops including guaymas and could do it. won't be cheap but if that's how you need to get there.

i can assist too as an option. the palapas will be hot then, its pretty rustic but cheap.
few rentals but you can hire pangas.
being going there 28 years to fly in and camp. my fav private beach in baja.
they have a cell, no a sat phone to take messages.

they are starting a camp overhaul now, gonna clean the place up and bring in improvements but won't make a lot of progress by sept.

i don't stay there till oct - april usually.

A 'resort' it is not...

Sounds like you think this is some kind of destination resort.
It is not.
We were there in Feb., drove down for the day from BOLA.
There are a few palapas, a cafe of sorts that will serve you whatever they are fixing at the moment, that is about it.
As to accomodations, rental toys, etc., you have the wrong place.
Plus, at the moment it is shut down (as if you could tell the difference) for some renovatiion.
Still in all, a very nice beach, a totally protected little harbor and a pretty good dirt airstrip.

Hi, thanks for both of your replies.

"Rustic" is an attraction to us, so I am glad to hear it, bajarunner. I saw on another site something about activites including kayaking and diving, so I was curious how much equipment is available there. It sounds like you are saying they have nothing except palapas...

I have talked to a couple of people-- Margarita Valladolid and her grandmother (I think), and they said that they aren't as involved as they used to be. I have a number for someone named Juan and a couple for Enrique, but neither has answered any of my calls. It's probably because they are both down at the SFQ... is there any communication with people there?

Is there an "official" means of contacting them? Do visitors just show up, or do the people there expect advance notice?

Thanks again

Bob Jones (a Baja Bush Pilot) made a web page for Punta San Francisquito a few years ago: http://members.tripod.com/bobbyjones_3/

On his home page, you can click on to see photos of the resort, fish, etc. (along the top of the page).

Also, he once had a Bahia Tortugas web page... the photo link is still shown, but the page is long gone. Next to the Tortugas aerial photo is a picture od Meling Ranch, which will take you to his Meling photos, when clicked on.

Thanks David for finishing this off.

I have only been there twice, once pre-running for the 1974 Baja 1000 and then again a few months ago.

The place is pretty deserted.

Yeah, there are plenty of beach activities available ........

you bring the activites, they provide the beach.

and a lovely beach it is,
just not a lot going on.

Don't think contacting them would make any difference whatsoever in the facilities or hospitality. IMHO
