4th of July business

I have not read anything about how business was in Rosarito & Ensenada over the 4th. Was there a significant uptick that gave a much needed shot in the arm to local business?

All the campgrounds and beaches were full. The Ensenada paper reported lots of tourists and 92% occupancy for the hotels.

The local report:

It says the flow of tourists "exceeded expectations".

I'm thinking that what at first looked like a bust is becoming a boom. We all thought that because of the worsening economy in the U.S., coupled with the news of violence in Baja, the tourists would be staying away. And that is what it was, at first. Now perhaps, with the cheaper cost for gas, North Americans may be scouting around for options. It's getting pretty hairy at home.

If you think it through, this scenario doesn't really make a lot of sense, but people are getting desperate. Now, if it weren't a cultural tendency to raise prices when real estate is not selling, maybe Baja would see a bonanza compounded. For now, enjoy the tourist $$.
