Photo from Alejandra de Baja of a babisuri (ring tailed cat) turned into a pet by the villagers on Isla San Jose. They are a pest on the island to the
people who live there (getting into food stock, etc.) and Alejandra asked that the life of this one be spared... They sure are beautiful!

Just off the east coast of Baja, between Loreto and La Paz (upper left corner of the map)... here's more:
Isla San José is an island in the Gulf of California, off the east coast of the Baja California peninsula. Located some 60 km north of the city of La
Paz, it belongs politically to the Mexican state of Baja California Sur and is part of the Municipality of La Paz. Its surface area is 182.962 km²
(70.642 sq mi), the sixth-largest island in Mexico.

One of the best dive sites in the world is just off the north end of Isla San Jose, a little pinnacle called Las Animas. Used to be one of the most
reliable places to see schooling hammerhead sharks, and the first place I ever saw them.

Is there a village on the Island? And how did ring-tailed cats get there?
