Justice System Reforms are taking place in BC

baja_gardener - 7-16-2008 at 07:15 AM

This is good news. Trials will be opened to the public to attend and there will be more transparency in the system.
Prosecution and defense motions and arguments will be made in open court.

palmeto99 - 7-16-2008 at 07:32 AM

How many Mexican lawyers have been trained in cross examination. If this happens , it will be light years from now. The system as it is now has no appellant relief that can be measured in years. This is really true for non Mexicans trying to use the courts. What happened to all the people on this board who say leave Mexico alone as it is perfect the way she is.
THE MEXICAN LEGAL SYSTEM IS A JOKE AND IS BEYOND REFORM.

Mexicali_Kid - 7-16-2008 at 07:38 AM

Palmeto99: Your observations are keen and your words are sharp, but no system is beyond reform. They have to start somewhere.

ELINVESTIG8R - 7-16-2008 at 08:38 AM

Nothing is beyond repair...It's just going to take some time. I applaud Mexico for reforming its justice system. As I have stated before:

"There will definitely be a learning curve but it is headed in the right direction. I am so happy to hear that it is finally being done. I hope they also properly fund their Public Defender system (Defensoria de Oficio) for the people who cannot afford a Criminal Defense Attorney. They also need to hire experienced Public Defender Investigators who can do a proper re-investigation of facts. Too many times innocent people are sent to prison based on false facts that were not uncovered because no one investigated on behalf of the defendant before trial."

I stand corrected in that there is always hope for the system.

I really doubt that anything is going to change the system for the better any time soon.

Bajajack - 7-16-2008 at 11:12 AM

I doubt very many americans or mexicans realize that mexican law is controlled by ruling families, nothing is changed until they give the OK and they like it the way it is.

Carlos Slim has more power in running the country than the President.

Blake jack you got it. and more and more the ruling families are the cartel

gnukid - 7-16-2008 at 11:29 AM

And quite similarly rich families run governments in the USA, Canada and throughout the world. David Rockefellar is among others controls the CFR, PNAC, Bohemian Club and Mason organizations who decide who is president and what will happen toward a one world government.

Now imagine if you were in charge of all banking, energy, big business and pulled the strings of government? Would you be hands off of the drug trade and sit back and allow it to pass your boarders and your transit corridors unchecked or would you control it, direct it and the money laundering?

The chaos is playing perfectly into their hands to bring about militaristic central control and end the freedom based state we started with.

Nothing will change anytime soon

Bajajack - 7-16-2008 at 11:57 AM

Unless the mexican people change their way of thinking and quit sitting around waiting for handouts from the very same Patrons who keep them in their place.

I beg your Pardon, they are not Negative statements, they are FALSE STATEMENTS.

You Children should get some education and experience before you Try to BS those that have lived and worked in Baja, those who know the People and the system and happen to like it.

If you donot like the good ole USA, then I strongly suggest that you take your Sorry Ass to another Country!!!

Boy o' Boy there's your nice christian tolerance "Anon the Preacher" ....

I held my first work visa in Mexico in 1965 and I have seen a lot and I think you are full of the burro ... maybe you should go to another country (you see what a stupid statement that is?)

Isn't the owner of the Gringo Gazette a Baja Nomad Member? Where is she and does she ever report anything on Baja Nomad?

Tolerance Lad's

Bajajack - 7-16-2008 at 01:06 PM

Remember Skeet is a lot older than most of us and spent a lot of time there and naturally takes a lot of what we say personally.

With all due respect ... she is putting together (with her staff) a newspaper that is over sixty pages long .... I don't know if I would want to be doing much posting after that.

gnukid - 7-16-2008 at 01:53 PM

Funny

Skeet is the one who lacks tolerance and also projects his experience upon others.

Perhaps we should not be tolerant of personal attacks and outright denials of truth?

How does it help Skeet or us to support his assaults?

Have'nt been here that long

but isnt she the one who always got roasted evertime she made a comment, whether true or not?

Because of her so called negative outlook on baja.

ELINVESTIG8R - 7-16-2008 at 02:07 PM

Wow Ron, I just heard she was a Baja Nomad Member. It would be nice if she could post some stuff in here too. What luck, a professional journalist amongst us reporting some facts about Baja California that would be fantastic!

As I said

It's because he's older and it's all about respect, but I consider just about anybody else fair game.

WHO?

comitan - 7-16-2008 at 05:02 PM

Gnukid

Dream on because it aint going to happen. I know you have been around La Paz and have seen all the new developer communities, a lot of them Gated. The gringos will mostly stay to themselves maybe have a few Mexican friends that speak English and that's the way it going to be, just like expats all over the world, or Italians,Mexicans, Chinese and others living in the USA.

Wow, I just got back...

baja_gardener - 7-24-2008 at 03:58 PM

from Rosarito, this was my first post and I was surprised by all the responses.

Just to let you know a little about myself: I am a border American.

I cross between the two cultures, borders, and languages daily.

Thanks for inquiring.

I thought the actual implementation date was 2016. They had to build courtrooms, etc. so they set that as a target date. By that year, another goverment will be in place. Maybe they could focus on reigning-in the Army for now while courthouse construction is going on.

"Trials will be opened to the public to attend and there will be more transparency in the system. Prosecution and defense motions and arguments will be made in open court."

I didn't know that wasn't the case. If so, this is an extremely important change for the better. Shedding light on what's going on is THE first step to improving any system.

Good for Mexico!!

I have a question for the many skeptics. If you won $2,000,000 on a $1.00 lottery ticket, would you complain about the tax bill?

rpleger - 7-26-2008 at 07:28 AM

Good Question K-rico......

I wouldn't
