Hey Pompano, is the picture the Big Sur coast?

jodiego - 7-18-2008 at 10:23 AM

Slow down, looks like there's trouble ahead!

Sharksbaja - 7-18-2008 at 11:03 AM

That's right here in Oregon. They are replacing or repairing(finally) most the bridges along Hwy 1. Keep enjoying the fine weather Pompano, you know how July can be here......foggy on the coast!

David , will you make it this far?

A trip hint for you, DK...

Pompano - 7-18-2008 at 11:33 AM

Buy lots of these objects below. You may know that the 'experts' are calling them the new 'Nature's Viagra.' The rinds are best for this objective..or so I am told.

p.s. Corky, the new improvements along the Coastal Highway are great. I've been making this our 'Baja Nomad' route between Coyote and Up North for a few decades and it couldn't be nicer. A truly world-class coast drive...almost as nice as Baja! Looking forward to your menu after leaving Winchester Bay.

Hey David & Elizibeth

BajaRob - 7-18-2008 at 12:21 PM

We too are in Newport. The temps here are just a little more than half that of the Bahia. The seafood here is great and I cooked up two 2 pound crabs last night. Will you make it this far north?

Von - 7-18-2008 at 01:11 PM

No Baja? Must be ill? oh well youll get over it. Have fun guys.

HOLA AMIGOS!!

David K - 7-27-2008 at 04:37 PM

Hi everyone,

We are back from a great trip NORTH!

Yes, it is quite unusual for us to go north when Baja is to the south of us... However, variety is the spice of life, afterall!

Because it wasn't a 'Baja trip', I will make this report brief with a few photos in this thread... being about 'Baja Nomads'.

Baja Angel (Elizabeth) and I first went to Las Vegas on Friday... and yes, we did get married!!!:bounce::bounce::bounce: (she's awesome)

Next, on Saturday (19th) we did the Star Trek Experience at the Hilton (which ends after 10 years running, this September)... and brought home some Romulan Ale! That was great fun, and quite interesting.

Sunday we drove north to Idaho and visted with Elizabeth's sister and stayed in the Honeymoon suite at the hotel...

Tuesday, we drove into Yellowstone Park and saw buffalo and geysers, and lot's of beautiful scenery... Stayed at the Snowly Lodge by Old Faithfull Geyser... watched an eruptuion that afternoon and another the next morning from a different location as we walked around the geyser basin.

Yellowstone is a beautiful place with a lot of things to see and enjoy... We drove on to the Lower Falls for some photos then south, out to Jackson, Wyoming... which was packed with tourists... and no place to stay.

Summer days being long, we still had plenty of daylight Wednesday and drove south to Alpine, WY and stayed at a tiny place called the Nordic Inn with cute little cabins, a bar, and restaurant 'Brentoven's' run by recorded classical pianist, Brent Johnston... who cooked our dinner and breakfast... great meals, both).

Thursday, we used the suggestions of the motel owner (Michael) and headed south through beautiful valleys, went up to Huntsville, Utah and visited a Monestary where Catholic Monks make honey and other crafts, and sell books on their religion vs. the Mormons... all very interesting.

More beautiful country as we dropped out of the Rockies and into Ogden, Utah and south of Salt Lake City to Sandy, Utah where we enjoyed a great dinner/ show at the Maya Adventure... Our hotel room had a jacuzzi tub in the room, which was fun!

Friday we drove back to Las Vegas, got a room at the Hilton, rode the monorail to various stops, saw the water show at the Bellagio... played some machines... Elizabeth won back the money I lost!!! (See, she's a keeper)

Saturday (yesterday), back home to Oceanside... We used Elizabeth's '08 Toyota Corolla and got up to 39.8 MPG (avg. about 35) during this 2,200 mile trip.

The following photos are but a few of the 300 I took... all these are hosted on photobucket.com, so as not to use any Nomad server space...

You dropped out of the WASATCH RANGE.

Bajaboy - 7-27-2008 at 05:14 PM

Congrats DK! Wishing you the best for years to come. And don't worry, you didn't miss much around here.

I hope Doug decides to give us Nomads a forum for non-Baja trip reports and photos... I have a growing collection of shots from our 3 recent USA vacations: (Grand Canyon, Jerome, Hoover Dam), (Carlsbad Caverns, Roswell UFO Museum, Petroglyph Nat. Monument, Painted Desert, Pertrified Forest, Meteor Crater, Route 66), (Pocatello, Yellowstone, Wyoming, Utah)!

Beer Review

David K - 8-3-2008 at 12:15 PM

Just a final note on our trip... we got some of this, from across the neutral zone:

Sadly, the Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton ends after 11 years on Sept. 1.

I don't know if Romulan Ale will be available after that?

It is brewed in Guatemala by Cerveceria Centro Americana, and inside the gold neck label is the name of another Guatemala brew, 'Dorada'.

On the Internet, it mentions the beer was made in El Salvador by another brewery, and got poor reviews. This brew tastes like Bud Lite... only blue!

Glad You Had a Good Old Hot (?) Time

Gypsy Jan - 8-3-2008 at 06:16 PM

But, I have a nagging qiestion. You're not worried about the effects of drinking alien beer?

No scaly skin or bony foreheads growing? :O ;D ;D

David K - 8-3-2008 at 07:05 PM

Not yet!!!:o
