The Angry Bay

DianaT - 7-23-2008 at 01:17 AM

Bahia Asuncion is usually calm with gentle small waves. But Tropical Storm Fausto, way far away brought the swell and turned the bay angry --- quite a sight, and I need a tripod!

The action was all on the town side of the point.

In front of the new hotel being built.

In Front of Shari's beach house

Looking south down the coast

The old Pier in Town

Good thing they beached this little guy since one of the Agar boats sunk.

Brought many of the pangas around the point and up onto the beach

Not good for fishing, but exciting to see and it should't last long.

Picture number three has good surf potential. But no way am I paddling out!
That bay was a lake when I was there.

Great pictures as usual Diane. Hope it settles down for us when we are there winning the derby in August.

It was very exciting for a few days and today everyone is eating pismo clam c-cktails as they always wash up on the beach after a big swell! The waves quieted down a bit yesterday enough for nomad kids to boogie board...and the water warmed up too!!! Maybe Juan can get out fishing tomorrow if the water isn't still turbid. Today is a surf trip to San Hipolito with the kids to surf in front of Tita & Bimbos casa and eat fish tacos..halibut!!! have a good day you all!

jdtrotter, Thanks for sharing the pictures.:D

#3 looks like a burro whuppin'.....

good stuff....

edit: #4 when you see the white water splashing 3 times higher than the wave that's what's known as a "bone crusher".....

Looks like the Honda salesman is dealing on those 4 strokes!

Glad you enjoyed the pix.

Woody, I love those names, and Thomas Tierra, I bet the surf was amazing in some of those secreat hidden never to be mentioned places.

Barb, I do hope there is not another storm at the time of the fiesta---you would not want to be out in that bay with those waves.

Iflyfish, we are sad because we had to leave and are not there beachcombing. Next time.

OH, fishbuck is correct. It usually does look like a big lake with pangas carefully parked out there.

Can't wait to get back!

We thought it was interesting that there were more Hondas than anything, it appeared.

I did too Diane. In recent years it seemed that Yamaha was the favorite.

Nice pictures by the way!

Diane,
Thanks for photos. Baja stirs my 6 senses thanks to your sharing a piece of your paradise with others.

Cheers to more photos, trip reports, restaurant/lodging referrals, fishing/boating adventures, recipes and fun.

Thanks. It is such a beautiful place, hot, cold, windy, calm, or whatever.

I love photos of derelict pangas. Not to say that all of those were derelict, but there were a couple of contenders! I’d like to make a slow trip down the Baja and take photos of all those pangas sitting in front yards, washed way up the beaches, and the ones with desert plants growing in them. I especially like the ones with pinchy sterns that no one favors anymore—for good reason, I am sure.

Thanks for the shots.

You would enjoy BA. There are several around town and in the other local small fishing villages. I also want to save them with some photos---will do next time. There are a couple we would love to have in our front yard -- would make a great playhouse for kids, and planter.

GREAT photos! Imagine standing knee deep in photo #1...that's a mack truck comin'!

How did Hipolito look Shari? Will likely be down that way next month, will keep you posted.

Thanks-- it is a gorgeous bay, calm or angry.

That is one thing we hope does not change. The color of the water, the huge healthy kelp beds, thousands of birds and sea lions, and a well managed and protected fishing industry.

LOVE your signature quote.

Sunman---those waves packed a lot of power. But there were some crazy older kids out in one area, but teenagers everywhere are crazy.:lol: IMHO, once you have been there, it calls you back.

Nice surf--good for body-womping! Anybody bodysurf down there in Asuncion?

DianaT - 7-27-2008 at 04:44 PM

Mexitron,

If there are any waves at all, there are lots of boogie boarders.

Just for contrast, I thought I would post of couple of pictures of what Bahia Asuncion usually looks like.

The first one is looking down the coast, the same as the first ones in the other pictures---but in the other pictures, you can barely make out the mountains. We only saw the light on these mountains like this one time, and should have taken LOTS of photos.

The downtown pier seen in the other pictures.

The usual calm setting for the fishing boats.

Don't want any hurricanes, but the surge is sure fun to watch.
