There is no facility in Maneadero for checking visas.
Have a little crash in town, not even your fault,
and explain to "the man" (a.k.a. El Jefe) why you don't have one.

When I drove down last Oct. I was waved over by a Federale (sic) in Manedero he checked my Visa (FM3) and my US Passport and asked the usual questions .... then he said "Welcome to Mexico, you will enjoy living in La Paz" ..

All in All, an nice encounter.

I remember in the olden days their was a small building on the right side of the road (S/B) in Maneadero where you could get tourist permit. Much easier than at the border??

You can get an FM3 at the Agriculture/border station check-point just south of Guerrero Negro.:D Don't know what hours the little office that sells FM3's is open, but if your heading south it's a quick and easy place to get 'em.:D

Cypress - 8-5-2008 at 12:40 PM

Oops! I meant FMT.:)

bajalera - 8-5-2008 at 12:52 PM

I remember that Migra outpost at Maneadero in the good old days, and getting a tourist permit wasn't a simple matter when you had a daughter who needed written permission to travel in Mexico from an estranged husband living who knows where.

There were several backroads that by-passed the immigration station, although of course I never considered taking them.

For a twenty dollar bill there, you could have bought the building. Never knew when they would be open.

Cypress - 8-5-2008 at 01:37 PM

Took one of our sponsor's 15 year old kid down to help out pitting for us.
Bang!!!,, The little phone booth guys would not let him past.
Soooooo, back into town, up the hill, down through the garbage dump, back on the road and on to set up the pit.

I ain't under oath and this statement cannot be used against me...

No worries amigo!

I don't want to be right as much as I want Nomads to have accurate information! Heck, they can move their inspection station south if they want to... keep us all guessing!

Viva Baja and its ever changing ways.... ole!

I heard that the immigration office in San Felipe closed a while back...

Can you still get an FM-T at the San Felipe Airport?

Gracias,

-H-

bajalou - 8-6-2008 at 03:52 PM

Imigration office in San Felipe is still open. NO FMTs issued and at airport, only issued if you arrive by plane.

Hltoppr - 8-6-2008 at 03:57 PM

Thanks for the info!
