On August 2nd the UT reported the couple (Federali and his wife) were caught in LA with $500K USA cash on them. They also reported that the two policemen killed in Mexicali not only worked for him, they were in his truck when they were killed outside a chinese restaurant. The Captain had not been seen in Mexicali since his men were killed and then he was nabbed the next day in LA with all that cash. The truth is out there somewhere. Woooosh

Federal police official from Mexico will face drug charges in U.S.

A Mexican federal police commander assigned to Baja California has been detained in Los Angeles on suspicion of drug trafficking, the U.S.
Drug Enforcement Administration said yesterday.

Carlos Alberto Cedano Filippini, 34, has been the chief agent in Mexicali for the Agencia Federal de Investigacion, known as AFL Cedano's detention Wednesday came four days after his two top deputies were shot to death in Mexicali, the capital of Baja California.

Cedano and his wife, Julissa Lopez, are suspected of conspiracy to distribute narcotics, said Sarah Pullen, spokeswoman for the DEA in Los Angeles.

"At this point, charges have not been filed," she said. Specifics of the arrest will become available today, once they are formally charged, Pullen said.

The detention of the couple followed an investigation by the DEA and the Los Angeles Police Deparbnent.

Repeated efforts late yesterday to contact AFI officials in Tijuana and Mexicali were un- successful. A state government official said Cedano was one of three brothers working for the federal agency, a division of the Attorney General's Office whose role is sometimes compared to the FBI.

Mexico has long struggled with corruption in its police forces, and agencies at all leyels of government have been penetrated by drug trafficking organizations. President Felipe Calderon's crackdown on drug gangs has led to the firing of numerous officers employed by local, state and federal agencies.

Cedano's detention follows the shooting deaths of AFI's second- and third-in-command in Mexicali on Saturday night as they were leaving a Chinese restaurant. According to a report in the newspaper La Crdwica, they were killed after getting into a black 2007 Chevy Tahoe that belonged to Cedano.

The slain agents, identified as Gerardo Antonio Mendez Reyes and Javier Gerardo Durtin Treviiio, had recently transferred to Baja California from the state of Jalisco."

The fish always stinks from the head... They should charge him with the murder of his deputies too.

What? Wait just a minute, Ron. That's not the American way. First you give him a fair trial, then you hang him before it goes to the Ninth District Court Of Appeals.
