CHEAP! CHEAP! CHEAP! Airline tickets TJ-LAP

danaeb - 8-1-2008 at 01:48 PM

Now that Volaris has taken over the TIJ-LAP route effective 8/1/08, they are offering heavy promotional discounts: $160 USD/ RT TIJ-LAP, from August through November.

As an aside, several spanish language press outlets are hinting that the head of the government agency that shut Aerocalifornia down is a good friend of the CEO of Volaris.

Who woulda thunk???

Here's one. There were several others that I read over the past couple of days, but I can't remember my original search criteria to pick them up.

If they don't pay they should be shut down, no matter who knows who.!!!!!!!!!

Wiley - I totally agree with you. It's just curious that Aerocalifornia was shut down on 7/24, and Volaris had already picked up the route four days later, with the same time slot. That't not even enough time for a check to clear the bank. I think everyone must have known in advance that this was going to be the final nail in the coffin.

When Volaris first started operating, I heard Carlos Slim was a major stockholder.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volaris

The founding and owner partners of Volaris are...

Grupo Televisa (the world's biggest Spanish media conglomerate),

Inbursa (an insurance company owned by billionaire Carlos Slim),

Grupo TACA (the national airline of El Salvador), and

Protego Discovery Fund.

Each of these partners invested 25% of the initial cost of activities

Volaris also has permission to fly to Los Angeles but it's still waiting for the assignation of the airport that it will operate.

I don't care. This sounds good to me. Lencho, I may visit you yet. I'll leave Chu Foon at home. I'm getting really tired of 2,000 miles round trip of white knuckles. Do they have a flight from Mexicali?

Two items unverifiable:

- Aerocalifornia at the end was nothing but a shell - planes leased (even the jet engines were rented from GE), property under different ownerships, basic assets some outmoded reservation PCs and trucks.

- a rumor that the Alemans (the ex-Presidents family who owns Ballandra, amongst other huge properties) was going to pick up AeroCalifornia.
