MANY things to see around BAHIA SAN LUIS GONZAGA

When one is not on the beach or out fishing... perhaps due to the wind? Then the opportunity to see the area sites of interest presents itself!

David, how about the road north to Huerfanito?

That road was good a couple years ago, and some interesting stuff and beautiful beaches and islands along the way.

Just before you start up the grades of "The Sisters" you can turn back to Gonzaga.

(Baja Vida and I were cruising along at 70 mph when we found a sharp ditch across the road- stood the truck on its nose and punched a hole in the bumper with a sharp rock on the far berm)

Hi David can you do one of La Bay is there any watering holes like the one in Gonzaga Ill be spearfishing and panga fishing id like to check out the surrounding areas too any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.....

Dick, I think Zac was just giving the English name for Bahia San Luis Gonzaga... GONZAGA BAY

You know the funny part is that the biggest part of the bay is really a different bay! Punta Willard/ Papa Fernandez' across to Isla San Luis Gonzaga and the sand spit of Alfonsina's is BAHIA SAN LUIS GONZAGA (often mis named 'Willard Bay' with 'Willard Island', misnamed as well).

The bigger bay from Alfonsina's south to Punta Final is ENSENADA DE SAN FRANCISQUITO. That being such a mouthfull, we are all okay with calling it 'Gonzaga Bay' as well!

The Spanish explorers named the bay, and it was a drop off port for missions (Santa Maria and San Fernando Velicata). The Spanish warehouse ruins are on the shore between Papa Fernandez' and Alfonsina's.

The larger bay was named San Francisquito after a waterhole on the Camino Real near Las Arrastras/ north of Coco's Corner. Punta Final Resort was originally Puerto de San Francisquito in gold mining days and nearby Molino de Lacy was Molino de San Francisquito when William Lacy built it!

Last time I was on it was Feb., 07 and was very bad as it has been since Nov. '05 when the Baja 1000 and flash floods did a number on it. In July of '05 it was very fast and easy.
