Greetings from DF...Today I picked up my new Mexican passport and shopped till I dropped around the Zocalo. I have really been enjoying my stay here
with the family of Lic. Gilberto Piņuela...who is THE man for anyone wanting their mexican citizenship. The architecture here is simply amazing and
everyone has been very friendly and helpful in the city.
So the Traditional fiestas of Asuncion begin on the 14th of this month...although the surf competition is this weekend..saturday and sunday.
The big fishing derby is on Aug.16th with free registration on the 15th. There are lots of catagories from panga fishing for yellowtail and cabrilla
to shore fishing with separate catagories for kids, teens and adults with great prize money offered and free tournament kit with caps, t-shirt and
bag.
Everyone is welcome..and there is a big free fish dinner after the derby on the beach with live music and dancing too...oh goodie..cant wait...hope to
see some of you here this year.DENNIS - 8-6-2008 at 06:31 PM

bisbees organizes the tournament...although it is a Governers cup deal but for some reason Bisbees reps come and run it...should be fun....need a

Can't wait to hear about the tournament! Hope the yellowtail will cooperate!
Even those great looking calicos are almost enought to get me down there again.

It was alot of fun but we didn't catch fish.
We never found a kelp patty and that's where the fish were. We fished as far out as about 15 miles.
We got a blind jig strike on one small dorado which my son reeled in and later we fished near shore and I caught a keeper hailbut.
So it wasn't a total skunking. When we got back to the Old Mill all the other boats had coolers full of small yellows and small dorado. I was peeed
but tried not to throw a tantrum and ruin it for my son.
We had a great time although I was a little sick and ended up with a mild case of pnuemonia.
It's cold out on the pacific.
Tons of life in the water including a resident juvinile grey whale in the bay.
The boat was a 26 foot Amato built in Ensenada. It had a 200hp Yamaha 2 stroke and was rocket fast. Didn't slow troll well and did smoke a little. It
was an older carburated model. But fast! 350/day from Tiburon for offshore tuna/dorado/yellowtail. 250/day inshore.
After fishing out of a 26 foot super panga it will be a little tough to go back to a standard 22-23 foot boat.
I'm going to go to the Amato factory on my next trip and check them out.
Best part is my son liked it and wants to fish with me again!

Just back from the surf competition...it was a gorgeous morning at the beach with lots of competitors ...especially in the kid catagories which was
fun. today the swell rose to about 7-8' and it was fun watching 2 guys go off in different directions on the waves...cool to have a left AND rights on
the same wave! There were also lots of tinytots in the white water....our future surfers. So it's a quick nap and off to the awards ceremony later.
Pictures coming soon.Diver - 8-10-2008 at 08:44 PM
Looks like the water is getting warm; 75 at the beach !
