It's not SJ or Cabo but have you considered the East Cape as a possibility? Hotel Buenavista Beach Resort or Rancho Leonero might be good spots to spend a few days with kids. Safe swimming beach and mellow pool scene. Only 40 minutes or so north of the airport.

Thanks Cardon Man...hadn't thought of that. I do like the more mellow scene, however isn't it a tad hotter on that side this time of year? I don't want it to be where I can't wait to get inside into an air conditioned room due to heat and humidity.

That's something to consider pacside. I can't speak to the actual recorded temp difference this time of year. But to me It doesn't amount to much. True the East Cape area might not get the cooling pacific influence. But there are some significant up-sides. Both hotels I mentioned are right on the water with awesome beaches, poised to catch a good breeze. The surf is generally mild this time of year and often quite swimable with snorkeling right on hand. And the beach side pool with an air conditioned room close by is a good step toward staying cool during the hotest time of day.

Listen to cardonman, pacside. Gulfside ocean water is much more kid friendly than the Pacific side. Been-there-done-that! 5 degrees at most in temp difference. Much more tranquil scenery plus more kid friendly water activities, like kayaking and pedal-boats.
