Taxi Fares from TJ to Puerto Nuevo

Thanks for any general ranges of taxi fares from the border to Puerto Nuevo. Usually I drive down but may take a few friends there for the day and split a taxi ride so thanks for any general ranges.

I was just in the "economy" taxi line in Tijuana a little over a week ago - and they have a board there with prices to locations all over, including Rosarito (possibly Puerto Nuevo was noted, I forget)....

My guess is somewhere in the US$25-35 range.

Rate will vary greatly depending on whether you use the "economy" taxis versus the first yellow taxi stand you see as you walk across the border. The economy taxis are ones like the "Taxi Libre" or the yellows having something like "taxi economico" in the back window. Their stand is west of the main yellow taxi stand - as you walk across the border, veer right and look for these taxis along the curb south of the McDonalds.

There are also "route" taxis (which I haven't learned all the "routes" for) - and they too go to Puerto Nuevo. It'll take you longer to get there using them, but it'll likely be cheaper - might depend on how many there are in your group as to how much this would save you (or not, as the case may be).

Mexicoach will take you from San Ysidro (US$14 per person) or Tijuana (US$9 pp) to Rosarito. Then you have to make your way to Puerto Nuevo from Rosarito (route taxi?).

Just different things to think about.

The "route" taxis, or "collectivos" as they're sometimes called, are quite cheap. I've gone many times from TJ to Rosarito for one dollar. It's another dollar from Rosarito to Popotla. The one from TJ is yellow and white and leaves from Calle Madero. You have to wait for a few people to fill the taxi but I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes.
