Caravan to Gonzaga for Thanksgiving Week

NE14Baja - 8-16-2008 at 02:52 PM

Heading to Gonzaga for Thanksgiving week w/ my girlfriend. Planning to leave SD south 11/22/08 and return 11/28/08 north thru Puertecitos and Mexicali. Plan to camp at Beluga for the week. Always better to travel w/ more than one vehicle.

Traveling alone these days can be dicey for more than one reason. We've gone alone in the past but, with all the "scare me reports" I just thought I'd ask. We will go regardless, can't shake that Baja Fever, and oh we miss Gonzaga soooo!!! Thanks for the input, maybe we'll meet during a Baja trip someday. Hope to get a room for Saturday night at the Baja Cactus but what about racers coming back? I checked the site and it says under construction, any tips? Thanks, D

Keep bumping this up - you never know how many Nomads will join you on this trip, including Audrey and I.

I noticed Ken Cooke and his group are heading down that way again this year. Heading out of Tecate via SF to Gonzaga then So. to LA Bay. We'll try to hook up w/ them for the trip down and back if possible. We had Beluga all to ourselves for the week two years ago, very surprised! P.S. Bob, you and Audrey are more than welcomed!

Whats the weather like at that time of year?

NE14Baja - 8-21-2008 at 07:39 PM

Weather in November is actually quite nice. Guesstimate low 80's, water warm enough for swimming, and cool, not cold nights. Hopefully no "W", keep your fingers crossed! We love going this time of year and have always enjoyed great weather.

Your thread has been well hijacked with tells of other caravans etc. ----happens a lot around here.

Hope you get some response to your request. It should be beautiful there for Thanksgiving.

How does 10 or so vehicles sound? We're stopping at the border in :o:OTIJUANA:O:o to get our tourist visas, and then, to Tecate/El Hongo for gas, San Felipe for dinner/camp out, then Gonzaga Bay the next night. Let me know if you'd like to travel w/our Jeeps and Toyotas...

Hey Ken, do you ever read your U2Us? I've sent you a couple and never got a response.. and have another idea for you on this trip that might be helpful...

Thanks Ken, maybe next time, we've changed our plans a bit. Decided to leave on Friday 11/21/08 south on Hwy 1 due to the Baja 1000. Hope to be past the racers as they head north at the two places they meet Hwy 1. Hope to see you all as you head through the Gonzaga area. Gray Toyota w/ Mango kayak on top.

If you're not paddling out in the bay, be sure to stop by.

Here's my mugshot - I'm in the silver, lifted Rubicon.

Will do, if we see you all lets have a Pacifico or two! Is Russ Chung on this trip with you this year? If we don't see you guys have a great trip/adventure, I'm sure you will, D.

Ken Cooke - 11-3-2008 at 10:05 PM

Yes, Russ Chung is going this year. He will be setting up our logistics from BofLA to San Francisquito to El ARco to Guerrero Negro. He's a real good guy to travel with.
