TS Fay...help me escape !!

Wiles - 8-18-2008 at 07:48 PM

I'm sitting in Fort Myers, Florida with TS Fay 20 miles due south and coming right at me. I'm sick of all the TS, Hurricane, Tornado and Flood Warnings. I've been through many Hurricanes over the years (Marilyn, Bertha, Luis, Charley, Wilma etc, etc) and quite frankly I'm sick of it.

C'mon Nomads, cheer me up with some pictures and/or stories.

Pampano...let's go for a ride.
Shari...take me whaling
David...show me Shell Island
Don Alley.....Let's go fishing
Paulina......I need some humor.

Show me some whales, dorado, dry lonely trails, fish tacos, birds, plants.....anything.

Nomads....help me out here. It's gonna be a tough long night.

Hurry up, my electricity will probably blink out in an hour.

Thanks rpleger. Hope you keep the river within its' banks this season.

Gracias Shari. The young ones are always so expressive. Off the old salt piers, I recall watching a mother calf pair. Mom was snoozing and slowly drifting in close to the pier while youngster was playing nearby. The calf suddenly realized their close proximatey to the pier and proceeded to ram mom repeatedly until she woke from her nap. Mom was a little startled and hurriedly took off for the main channel, a very proud youngster beside her.

May the manatees...

thebajarunner - 8-18-2008 at 08:41 PM

and all the Nomadamigos in Fort Meyers ride this out in style and safety.

We stood out at your power plant outfall last year and watched the great parade of the manatees.

I must say, as impressive as it was, it just did not hold a candle to a loving nuzzle from a "friendly" in San Ignacio.

Buen suerte...

Agreed amigo. I have tried and tried....really, but the manatees are just plain dull.

San Ignacio is a very special place indeed.

Update.......

We are in the height of the storm this a.m. and so far it hasn't been bad. Typical tropical storm. lots of wind and rain, some power outages. Nothing we can't handle. Few more hours and things should begin to mellow out.

Wiles, Glad to hear. Hope you'll be storm-free for the remainder of the season.

Wiles,

Sorry I didn't see your post until today. My bad. I hope you fared the storm well and are seeing clear, warm, sunny skies.

While in Bahia this summer I ran into an old friend you may remember. We were watching a whale feeding, our panga along with an inflatable. At one point the other boat pulled up along side, "You look familiar", he said.

My name's Paulina.

My name is Steve James.

Small baja world.

Here's some photos of that incident to help get that baja feeling.

After the whale moved on we chatting, told Steve of where we had seen some Bottlenosed dolphins playing. We then ran into him again later that morning in front of town while watching a whale shark. It was a fun chance meeting.

I'm hoping that happens with you one of these days. Bahia is calling your name.

Great shots Paulina!!

My partner that lives in Sarasota says if the water gets any higher in his street he expects to see flukes headed up the driveway
