Status of Loreto Bay

tripledigitken - 8-19-2008 at 01:11 PM

Would someone offer up an update of the Loreto Bay development. It seems to have fallen off the radar of late.

I have followed "Where in the World is Nellie" blog for about a year. She had/has business concerns in Loreto and has been a supporter for LB. Even she has sold off some of her businesses and is not posting currently. It appears that, as predicted by many here, that the project has fallen on hard times, with good reason of course!

Loreto Bay isn't dead, but it is definitely revising it's direction. Here is a link I found for a blog by one of the LB owners. Lots of information on the status of LB.

LB management is shuttering their Scottsdale and Canadian offices and moving the entire (remaining) management team to Loreto. I'm not a LB owner, but as a future Loreto resident I am glad to see that the project is moving ahead albeit on a smaller scale.

There have been many changes to the ownership group and a slew of complaints about non performance in the construction dept.
I have spoken to at least 4 people who have their dwelling at least 18 months behind completion date and no firm date in place.
There are some blogs where some folks have put fingers to keypad and have described the painful interactions with the Loreto Bay group. The lucky ones were the folks that came in on the Loreto Bay sales flight but ended up buying land and building homes away from the development for a lot less money.
That part of the Loreto market still seems strong.
:cool:The golf course is still screwed up though. That is a shame .

In reading the referenced blog..........................upbeat descriptions of public improvements, private home construction, artist's renderings of various aspects of the project, etc....................................................

I saw NO MENTION of public water development, power plant, or sewer treatment.

I suppose those infrastructure plans, (back when the original projections were for 6,000 homes), are but a distant memory now with the downsizing.

Not to mention that Citigroup's financial picture is anything but shiny.

The new flight schedules, or lack thereof, wont help LB. I don't think they were selling to people who like to drive the penisula.

It is reported in the latest addition of the Gringo Gazette, that BOTH Delta and Alaska are dropping their flights to Loreto as a result of higher fuel costs.

That won't help the already high prices. I chose to drive down 6 months ago rather than pay $500+ rental car, fares now are over $800 (from LA).:(

I am afraid you are right. The only thing my wedge would be good for on the course would be to dig up a few spuds.
The last time I played it with a friend who was visiting led him to remark that the only thing it was missing was a thousand head of cattle.

My wife and I noticed the billboard at the airport has changed. It used to say (and I'm half-guessing at the actual numbers) units from the $400,000s. Then someone crossed that out and wrote $300,000s. Now it doesn't list a price at all.
