I'm jonesing again

Martyman - 8-22-2008 at 03:52 PM

Talked with my buddy on the phone. We are going down to baja in five weeks. We discuss the important things;
Do we have enough ice trays for c-cktails and fish?
What size cooler will fit on our small boat?
What type of betting do we want to do for... largest fish? first dorado? ugliest?
I heard the dorado are only biting live mackeral, will they bite my rubber ones?
What type of tequila should we get? How do we get our neighbors to bring over beer? Do we have enough stash?

I get off the phone completely ready to leave immeadiately. How will I wait the next five weeks?
I'm jonesing for baja.

Ah yes...the REALLY important things....

Mom & I had quite a laugh when we realized we were seriously discussing whether or not 3 lbs. of butter was enough for a week at the Gonzaga house.

It was just the two of us.

We already had enough tequila, but planned on eating eating a lot of steamed clams...

Have fun!

will depart for Baja in about 5 weeks. It's still hot and humid in San Felipe ( 107f ) but will be much more pleasant in early October. Newport has been great for the summer but we are anxious to return to the beach.

They might.

I assume you dont have a bait tank and that is why you arent going to use live bait, cause they are usually very easy to catch in BOLA at this time of year. Inside Punta Arena at first light; I guess this assumes you werent drinking tequila into the wee hours the night before.

Anyway, mackerel are hearty fish. Consider catching them with sabiki rigs and keeping them in a 5 gallon bucket. Carry another bucket for adding fresh water or changing them over into fresh water. Better have a bait net as they are not much fun trying to catch with your hands in a hot bite.

Even consider catching some and fishing with them fresh dead whole or chuncking them up, if you dont want to hassle keeping them alive. Dorado sometimes are not picky at all.

Steve,
I'm leaving on the 12th also.
Be on the lookout for my blue kayak when you're out chasing the dodos!
Hope to see you on the water or in town.
