This has the chance of forming into at least a trop storm and possibly impacting the peninsula.

Hook....thanks for the heads up...we will keep an eye on it...

Thanks again

Osprey - 8-23-2008 at 11:23 AM

we're getting some rain from it's northernmost outer bands right now in East Cape but most of the tracks will now take it west like the rest.

We could get some more rain Sunday night or Monday

DianaT - 8-23-2008 at 11:41 AM

Interesting one---one model shows it headed straight for our area. A little rain would be nice, but lots of rain at one time really causes lots of damage around here.

vandenberg - 8-23-2008 at 12:35 PM

Does look promising for at least some rain.

BajaWarrior - 8-23-2008 at 01:01 PM

Ya, not good. Looks like it'll punch back out heading east at around Gonzaga Bay by Thursdayif that image is correct...

We'll be north of there for 6 days starting Tuesday. We might get a little wet...

Julio

bajajudy - 8-23-2008 at 03:32 PM

Now TS Julio

We are under a tropical storm watch

Reporting from Elias Callas. I have not seen this much rain and lighting, thunder activity in years. Of course there is no explanation here in BCS. It can pour here for an hour, and not a drop in Todos or Cabo.

*&%&, it just starting pouring. I gota go.

bajajudy - 8-23-2008 at 08:42 PM

I do not like the looks of this even if it is only a tropical storm
...can you say Fay?

I live on an island if the San Jose arroyo floods.

How about that GFS model.............a circumnavigation of Bahia de La Paz?:o

flyfishinPam - 8-24-2008 at 06:11 AM

the leading edge of the cloudmass is visible to the south of Loreto and approaching pretty quickly. water looks smooth for now so I sent out the boats, they were tentative pending conditions. I don't think we'll be fishing tomorrow but we'll see. rain is good we can always use it, prepare ahead of time.

It's pouring and it is going to get worse. No wind yet. Supposed to hit us dead on late this afternoon.

bobw - 8-24-2008 at 07:51 AM

Good luck to all Nomads in the path...

oxxo - 8-24-2008 at 07:59 AM

9am just west of San Jose.

Light rain, with an occasional shower. Wind about 20 with higher gusts. 100% cloud cover. Very angry surf. Storm center expected to pass later today. It's one of those popcorn and cerveza days.

longlegsinlapaz - 8-24-2008 at 08:16 AM

9:15 AM Centenario

Rained during the night.....now raining intermittently light-moderate & calm, virtually NO wind & I'm up on a hill where there is always a breeze! Unfortunately, all the various BUGS musta also checked the weather site too, because it appears they're moving inside, with luggage!:no:

Where are you ?????????????????

While all weather posts are welcome ... if there is no clue as to your location ... the post is close to worthless.

Sunday 9.44am, Rancho la Aguja, Pacific Coast due west of La Paz.

Outer band hit us 34 minutes ago - heavy rain, little wind. No swell.

palmeto99 - 8-24-2008 at 09:18 AM

Are there anymore reports of this storm?

Well, based on his username, I'd guess Cabo, but in light of the fact that you're CaboRon & happen to be in Todos Santos, I guess that might screw up that logic!

Relax & look out the window. For all practical purposes, you don't need to start worrying until & unless the wind picks up big time (100 mph) or you start to see pangas floating past your place!

maspacifico - 8-24-2008 at 09:24 AM

I'm on the East Cape south of Los Frailes. Gusty winds about 30, my five gallon rain gauge says about 2" since midnight. That's when we had to abandon the upstairs bed. Hasn't rained much in the last couple hours here, just the wind. Looks like Cabo and Todos Santos are going to be in the way on this one. Does anyone know how the arroyo's are around La Ribera? Have some people supposed to fly out late today from SJD.

cabobaja - 8-24-2008 at 09:28 AM

CaboRon, if you had read my earlier post you would have seen I am 18 miles south of you in Elias Calles.

Hey, what can I say Longleggs, I was planning on retireing in Cabo San Lucas ...

Things change .....

The name came long before the move.

It would be simpler if you would put your location in the sidebar.

On a weather thread, I only read the most current entries, not yesterdays, which have little or no meaning to the current conditions.

11am, just west of San Jose

Some rain, but not heavy. Wind about 25 to 30. Wind is easterly, which means the center of the storm is west of us. Still have power. No flooding in my area. All roads open in my area. BIG SURF. Really, not too much going on at this time.

BajaJudy, can you give us a report? What is the status of the arroyo out your way?

Hey, I dont see nada from here.

The sky pretty clear.

Ill be waiting for it...hahahahaha....

vandenberg - 8-24-2008 at 11:34 AM

Had the first downpour here in Nopolo. Heavy rain for about 20 min. with some windgusts to maybe 25 mph.
This is, according to sat.pics, only the beginning of this storm and it's very outer reaches. Lots to come. It's just reaching Cabo.

livencabo - 8-24-2008 at 11:42 AM

When and if the going gets rough, try NOAA as long as your computer and or cell phone works. Cabo Mil on the computer via iTunes got me through one long night. The worst part of a severe weather event is the isolation and wondering how long before the roof or the doors or windows are going to blow out.
If you are in the path of an arroyo or at the shoreline, consider moving yourself to a place where you can appreciate the power of nature without a too subjective experience.
As a final note, I was a bit miffed and downright rude to a Mexican family who invited themselves into my house as FAUSTO approached. I sure sang another tune when that storm broadsided Todos and they sprang into action to protect my house, my car, my pets and me. After the storm subsided they cleaned up my place, fallen trees and all and went back to repair their sti ck and mud walls and palapa roof.

We had a little over an inch of rain during the night.
Now sprinkles and gusts of no more than 20mph.
Still pretty dark but nothing scary.
Road open as of now(2:00pm) but not much traffic. Well, except for the dump truck puerto los cabos is sending down the road to fill in the holes.

I don't know Lou...

That looks like a direct hit or very close to me, just give it another day of forecast... plus factor in the high tides we're experiancing on Thursday, high waves and storm surge, spells recipe for disaster for the homes on the beaches...

Hopefully it won't bring a lot of rain, as the roads are in bad enough shape as it is...

The predictions from Weather Underground I just looked at show 2 paths way to the east, onshore in Sonora or close. 1 ending around LA Bay and 2 heading out to sea from Cabo.

Of course the Sonora tracks would produce some rain and wind, but nothing like Nora in 97 when if came almost directly over San Felipe.

Always hoping for the best--

vandenberg - 8-24-2008 at 01:45 PM

The latest animation kind of shows Julio taking a small westerly turn away from Baja's west coast. So, maybe the peninsula in for a good soaking without the winds. Steady rain here in Nopolo, but nothing we can't handle. Temps dropped into high 70's. Nice.:bounce:

1450 hr. here is Todos Santos

We are getting very blustery winds with a dark sky.

Seems to be in bands of very dark to light sky.

No real rain so far but a lot of wind.

Power was off and on a couple of times but holding now.

Temp. is 87 F. Wind coming from the West South West ..

I am not kidding.
I am just stating what is happening right now in Loreto Bay. In fact I just went over to Loreto Bay Inn and there are very few people there.
There is a group of guys sitting under a covering by the pool having a drink.
Obviously there is a big storm around but right now at 4:00 pm it is a gentle rain with no wind.

bajajudy - 8-24-2008 at 03:10 PM

Sharks
I know that looks bad but it has been a non event here too.
We have had sprinkles and some gusts but nothing serious.
The rain is welcomed and the wind has blown all the dead leaves off my ficus and jasmine...kind of a wind pruning.

Sharksbaja - 8-24-2008 at 03:18 PM

Thanks Judy for the words of moral support . Granted the storm lacks the punch of John but remember the flood that swept thru Mulege had little or no winds with it. It's those big mountains behind there.

Do you have a pic of the beans?

CaboRon - 8-24-2008 at 03:20 PM

1615 hrs. Todos Santos Sunday

Another band approaching from WSW with lightening included in this one.

Lightening is still about two miles off the coast.
Temp. 84 F.

Will be shutting down soon as I am afraid the fifteen foot mast on my roof might become a lightening rod. So will disconnect the transmitter/receiver ... shut of power to trans and unplug the LAN cable from my computer.

This is my first storm so I am not sure what to expect.

I am hoping my power stays on as I have a triple feature running in my home theatre !!!

Rain just started.

More updates later.

Judy summed it up well! Other than a little rain, Julio is a non-event for Centenario/La Paz area. No thunder & lightening here since Saturday around noon. It DOES look bad on the weather sites, but it must just be clouds, Still no wind here...nary a breeze.

Of course, in typical fashion, it could just be waiting for nightfall to lamblast us!

Bob and Susan - 8-24-2008 at 04:06 PM

sharkman...5:04 and just light sprinkles here on the bay

the pubelo looks pretty clear still...from here

the clouds are up in the mountains

Cypress - 8-24-2008 at 04:11 PM

Julio? Maybe a little rain, at most, less than half that of Hurricane John.:o WTF!:o That's six feet of water spilling over the banks of the Rio Mulege.:o Just joking! Expect it will be a breeze with a few showers. A welcome rain and maybe cool things off.

oxxo - 8-24-2008 at 04:11 PM

5pm Its over in my section of San Jose. Not much rain at all today. Some gusty winds. That's about it. Ocean is laying down nicely. People are out walking the beach right now.

6:40PM. Still continuous gentle rain but no wind in Loreto Bay. However it is looking darker in the south.
Just drove into town. The traffic signal is working by El Pescador. I can't remember the last time it was working.
They just put in the world's biggest speed bumps in Loreto Bay. Glad to see they had money leftover to fixed the traffic signal.

thanks all for your udates as we are glued to this site to find out how fast it is approaching our area...we had a gorgeous clear sunny day, 15 knots of wind from the west and nice warm water...we were swimming all afternoon keeping an eye on the nasty looking clouds over Mulege and hoping the west wind continues to blow to keep most of it away from us..although a nice little rain would be lovely....be safe fellow nomads and keep the reports coming....much appreciated.

10:00PM
Just took my gin and tonic up to the upper deck and checked the weather.
It is breezy but not raining. Streets actually starting to dry a little but feels like it will be windy and rainy throughout the night. Hope that is all it is.

The world's biggest topes are actually in Nopolo just off highway 1 on the road going to Loreto Bay and they are not in Loreto Bay. They sure are discouraging us from having small cars because a small car will get hung on those suckers. They must be at least 8" tall, 4 feet wide with sharp edges not rounded corners

rpleger - 8-24-2008 at 10:57 PM

Midnight here in Mulegé...a little rain and wind...no big deal yet...

Pebbles - 8-24-2008 at 11:01 PM

Midnight in Loreto Bay
Rain, lightning and a little wind.
Nothing serious but it feels like it will be this way for a while.

Hook - 8-24-2008 at 11:17 PM

What time zone are you guys observing down there? Does BCS observe daylight savings time?

Pebbles - 8-24-2008 at 11:47 PM

yes Loreto has daylight saving time.
I believe it is mountain daylight time; same as Denver.
It is confusing because Sonora where Hermosillo is does not follow daylight saving time. Hermosillo is one hour earlier even though it is east of Baja.
Continue to rain with thunder and lightning at 12:40AM

Pebbles - 8-25-2008 at 01:04 AM

Strong thunder and lightning storm just passed Loreto Bay between 1:00 and 2:00.
There has been a lot of rain and it is continuing.
No wind to speak of.

CJ - 8-25-2008 at 02:51 AM

It's 3:50 AM in Loreto. It has been raining hard with a lot of thunder for the last two hours

losfrailes - 8-25-2008 at 05:26 AM

Hook - 8-25-2008 at 05:54 AM

Outer edges of the clouds with high, cold tops starting to reach the Sonoran coast near San Carlos. LARGE drops starting..........but no wind at all.

It's 5:51 here in Sonora, yet WE are on MST..........confusing.

Or have I been living an hour off for my first nine days of retirement in Mexico..............nah, cant be. Happy hours here are ending when they are supposed to.

flyfishinPam - 8-25-2008 at 05:56 AM

Starting at midnight lots of rain thunder lightening cell tower was out till about 5am now steady rain at 7am should continue for several more hours. Town must be a mess always is when it rains.

mulege

mulege marv - 8-25-2008 at 05:58 AM

it has been raining hard all nite with several electrical outages. there is no wind just a steady downpour, the river has not shown any signs of excessive flow so far, keeping our fingers crossed.

Pebbles - 8-25-2008 at 06:24 AM

I complain about the world's biggest topes but my compliments to Nopolo's utility. I dont think electricity ever went off in Loreto Bay.

Main street on South end near Loreto Bay Inn is clear but there are no cars or trucks on the street.

I have to believe the lower streets coming into Loreto Bay are flooded.
Light rain now with very gray skies in Loreto Bay.

Bob and Susan - 8-25-2008 at 06:27 AM

raining hard on the bay here in mulege...

lots of lightning last night

wind really blew at 3am till 5am
the rain was almost horizontal

we got 3 inches of rain between 12am and 6am

ALOT of water came down FAST!!!

TS Julio is moving at towards the NNW 15 MPH. Centered at 26.3N and 112W about 2 hrs ago.

shari - 8-25-2008 at 07:17 AM

It's 8:15 and the police just announced school cancellation...kids are happy. It is cloudy and humidcalm seas...no wind, no rain but looks ominous out there. Be safe everyone...dont try to cross those arroyos unecessarily.

The police just announced that the highway was closed from north of San Ignacio to La Paz due to wash outs. Hope my laundry dries before it rains....the sun just came out so its looking good.

Wish it would hurry up and get out of here. I have a lake, might even have trout, in front of my home.

Loreto
just back from a walk to the marina. appears most people got their small crafts out of there in time but of the fifteen or so pangas left, many sank. a bunch of people working to wade/pull/push/winch them out.
rains continue. now too heavy for my umbrella. motor traffic seems to be picking up. corners towards water of Benito Juarez flooded as usual. I didn't want to try my luck wading in the sewage laden waters to get into town proper.

CaboRon - 8-25-2008 at 08:40 AM

0940 hrs. Todos Santos

These storms are strange ....
About 30 min ago it started raining again after many hours of relative calm.
Very heavy but falling down instead of sideways as it was yesterday.

Just back from a swim. Seas confused but not big.
Looked like rain all around us but not a drop has fallen since yesterday afternoon.
Right now(9:45) sunny and steamy but only 80 on the chile thermometer.
Hope all of you north of here are doing ok.
Read in the paper that Comondu was hit pretty hard!
Schools closed here too

Steady downpour here in Nopolo withwind from the south with occasional gusts up to 25 mph. Flooded streets, nothing unusual with any kind of rain. Golfcourse holding up nice with small lakes here and there. Most steady rain I've seen here in years, even during Marty and John.
