THREAD POSTING TIME

rob - 8-24-2008 at 03:31 PM

I have been watching the Julio storm postings and made a post at 9-something am this morning, the post was marked 8-something am when it appeared on the board.

Now my post is marked 3-something pm.

Why these wild swings in posting times? Current storm comments are being time-stamped at around 10pm tonight.

Can't we just stick (say) to San Diego time where the owner lives - I can never remember if this is GMT or what and if so, what the time difference is . . .

This board is available to visitors worldwide. The default time used is GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). When you signup for a user account, you have the option to have time on the board reported to you in your local time - only thing about that is you'll have to specify where that is.

The software also doesn't have the ability to know which areas support DST and which do not. Therefore, you have to adjust your settings during DST if you want the time noted to be accurate.

Why does it appear as 8:XX at one time, and 3:XX at another? Pacific Daylight Time is GMT minus 7 hours - and it looks as though you saw the time as 8:XX when you posted, because you were logged in. 8:XX plus 7 hours would be 3:XX - and that's what you'd see if you're not logged in (GMT). If you're not logged in the board can't use/display your personalized settings for local time.

While not the first time to address this, it's a good question. Thanks for asking.

Grover- thanks for the reminder on how that works

I was somehow back on Alaska time,

and, of course in the interest of maximum complexity, had to click MST to get PDT....

it is all good!!!
