Photo trip report - Bahia de Los Angeles Summer Fiesta - Carrerea de Caballos - Aug. 08

The first day of the horse races didn't seem too promising. There wasn't a charge at the front gate (rope) so that should have told us something.

While we were watching the end of the soft bol game we could see a few of the horse trailers coming in from out of town. After the game was over, one trailer did a loop around the ball field before finding a parking spot. I noticed one of the horses in the trailer acting up, but didn't think too much of it.

Mia and Tony had left on their quad only to return a couple of minutes later to let me know that there was a horse badly hurt near the gate. Dern and I headed over to find that it was the same horse that I noticed just a short time before.

It had an unfortunate accident in the trailer. The horses leg was bleeding profusely, the artery was cut, and the leg seemed to be broken. The town doctor and his assistant came to help as well as the ambulance driver. I didn't think the horse would make it, but two days later we saw it standing under a tree.

Warning : Three Graphic photos, scroll fast if you don't want to see them:

The first day only three horses raced, so we watched a race and a half. Not too exciting. The second day there was quite a croud. We pulled up to watch from our quad.

The starting gate

We've been needing to get a new saddle for our horse. Wait till I tell Cody it's going to be a Bahia special; a 3" wide strap across her legs, tying her down to the horse, and that's it.

Those boys sure could ride.

Jaripeo coming up next.
