thanks for that Judy... I didn't know FM2 & 3 holders were eligible. I will let some of our amigos know that.

CaboRon - 8-25-2008 at 09:36 AM

Shari,

Yes, that is true.. .. I have an FM3 and also have the Third Age Card ....

It was good to see that you also get 50% off on the ferry to Matzalan .... does anyone know if you also get a discount on a cabin or is it only on the passage ?

Very interesting---thanks Judy---good information for those of us who will admit we are over 60.

Have had the INSEN card for years. Do get 50% of property taxes and water bill, 10% of medication at regular farmacy ( ISSST excluded ). Tried the discount for bus and ferry ticket and was plainly refused. Have to admit that this was several years ago, so maybe that has changed.
My take on it was, just because it's stated, doesn't mean it gets honored. If anyone tries, please post the result.

Also,I remember, that a few years ago, they were questioning the property tax discount for non Mexican nationals here in Loreto. Was resolved in our favor, but in the future, quien sabe.:?:

We went to the office in Santa Rosalia in March and were told that without a residence card we were not eligible. They indicated that an FM2 would not qualify. So hopefully this has changed very recently.

Then again, maybe the information is different in different locations???? When in doubt, say no.:lol:

I cannot vouch for the veracity of this information.
I just copied it from the Baja Pony Express news letter.
I am going to see if there is an office in San Lucas or here.
Will let you know what I find out.

The information is not different in different locations, BUT the petty office staff is different.

Have never had trouble with either long distance busses or colectivos.

One lady called who was refused at the La Paz office. I think she peeed off the clerk. I have never had a problem at the La Paz office. Went there with three friends a couple of weeks ago and I got my updated new card and they got their first cards.

I have found that you must treat these Mexican clerks like children otherwise they seem to drum up a lot of their own rules.

And it seems they are allowed to get away with this passive agressive behavior by their superiors.

So the key words are patronize with a smile.

A friend took early retirement several years ago, on the mainland. He talks about all the discounts all the time, travels by bus, movie discounts. Loves the medical care, maybe not all the high tech bells and whistles, but his doctor has time to sit and talk with him for half an hour a visit at least, If they exhaust details of his condition, they talk sports.

INAPAM Card

Ron:

When I obtained my card in Ensenada, I needed a valid/current FM-3, a color copy of the photo page of the FM-3 and one color ID card size photo (2cm wide, 2.5 cm high). Took it to the INSEN office, now the INAPAM office, issued the same day while I waited.

Discounts also available at grocery stores and some eateries.

Good luck

I have had my Third Age Card (INAPAM) for a long time....

My question was "what is a residence card"?

Never heard the term.

Hubby got 1/2 off all the busses when traveling the mainland, free admission to most museums (or at least a big discount at others), discount on groceries at Calimax. It is much more widely accepted on the mainland than Baja and the govt seems to push it more on the mainland. If you go to the website it is almost 100% DF focused.

I've never understood people who were afraid to give their age and told people they were younger. All that does is make people think you look old for your age...what you need to do is tell people you are 10 years older than you really are, and they all fall all over themselves telling you how great you look!!!

Baja Ferries offers only 70 peso off the fare to Topolobampo, and about the same to Matzalan. In the Yucatan, we got the full 50% off on the ferries to Isla Mujeres and Cozumel. We never failed to get 50% off the buses, however, there are only 4 INAPAM seats per bus so we did have to take a later bus on some occasions. I can also confirm that FM3's qualify (in La Paz). I was going to post the web link to the INAPAM site that stated the qualifications but the link is no longer vaild. (I find most Mexican government site are rewritten by the time I get back to them.)
