And since I listened to it in Baja, I hope that we can share this without having to go to.......yes, Off-topic. It is too sweet to be over there

Maybe Grover can put it in a post for me.

We do not see enough of this. What a wonderful anthem.

Diver - 8-28-2008 at 01:55 PM

I haven't been as impressed by that song in a long time !
Those girls rock !!

Woooosh - 8-28-2008 at 02:09 PM

Nice to hear it NOT be slaughtered. The fans seemed appreciateive and even the players stood still for a change.

Don Alley - 8-28-2008 at 02:47 PM

Beautifully done.

But do audiences ever sing the anthem, accompanied by the band, or an organ? Anywhere, anytime? Not that I ever see on TV, or even at our local high school. Seems it's always a performance that the audience listens too.

We're going to end up with a generation that doesn't know the lyrics to our anthem, THE BEST NATIONAL ANTHEM IN THE WORLD!

CaboRon - 8-28-2008 at 02:56 PM

Fantastic !!

Makes me feel proud to be an American !!

CaboRon

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back in elementary school we had to memorize the SSB.

All four stanzas.

GeoRock - 8-28-2008 at 04:07 PM

Very heart touching.

I remember saying the Pledge of Allegiance each morning in school, and the feelings of pride in America from which resulted.

cabobaja - 8-28-2008 at 04:11 PM

Bravo....brought a few goose bumbs. Viva America!!

David K - 8-28-2008 at 04:22 PM

idleguy - 8-28-2008 at 04:37 PM

bajalera - 8-28-2008 at 08:33 PM

So the tune used for the American anthem was written by a Brit! ha! :tumble:

The tune was also used by Luxembourg for their national anthem, though this has since changed.

Naturally I disagree with Don Alley's earlier post........

God Save the Queen is the best anthem in the world! :P

As you were.

Mexitron - 8-29-2008 at 04:59 AM

Goober !!!!!!!!! Outstanding !!!!

And, for us veterans

thebajarunner - 8-29-2008 at 08:04 AM

A new Federal law passed last year enables all of us who served (honorably, I presume) to salute during the anthem.

This is really special for many of us, and I have been practicing lately, well, I actually practiced a little in front of the mirror before I went to the races last month and did it in public.

Our Navy tradition said no salutes without a hat on (covered vs. uncovered)

No one can tell me if we are still supposed to take off our hats, then salute (not Navy tradition) or leave the hat on during the anthem (not acceptable tradition) and do the salute,

Whatever, it is a very special honor for many of us,
and I hope more will start to practice it.

(Always made me cringe to see Mr. Clinton- a devout non-veteran- salute, uncovered, when he got off the copter)

Wow...who ARE those girls???? That was simply marvelous...fabulous harmonies and thanks for the history lesson.

But, many countries think THEIR anthem is the best in the world..FOR THEM!

baja-spirit - 8-29-2008 at 08:23 AM

Those girls were great... really enjoyed it... Thanks Judy

David K - 8-29-2008 at 08:26 AM

Has anyone seen the translation of the Mexican National Anthem? I metion that because a lot of people think ours is to 'violent' and war-like!

A national anthem should inspire pride in ones country, whatever words are used...

bajajazz - 8-29-2008 at 03:05 PM

Thanks for posting this, Judy. Played it for my wife today and we both teared up. Listen close and you can hear their little Texas accents on "praoud" and "ramParts," and the girl who sings the octave jump on the last "free" has an amazing voice. Heard this last night for the first time just after Barack Obama's extraordinary acceptance speech and the timing was very fitting. With kids like this coming up there's still some hope.

Cypress - 8-29-2008 at 03:24 PM

Rockets bursting in air etc.? Sorta spookey if you don't really understand the language and the meaning.:D Barack Hussain Obama? Oh yea.
