Congrats Bajagypsy, you're on the way! Nice view too!

P<*)))>{

David K - 8-29-2008 at 07:56 AM

Nice view... looks like you will be able to see Nomads arriving at Juan & Shari's, so you can come and say 'hi' and 'what's up', eh?

Congrats on your new start up!

shari - 8-29-2008 at 08:01 AM

Yeah, we'll have to work out some smoke signals for c-cktail hour!
We are really looking forward to all the fun times ahead...seaweed wraps!!!

Diver - 8-29-2008 at 08:13 AM

Very cool !!
Shari's can be seen in the background of the first photo.
Our lot (with new septic !!) is to the left of the hill in the background of the second picture.
Trotters are just out of frame to the right of the second photo.

Another thanks to Shari for helping coordinate our septic system and so much more !!:yes::yes:

Martyman - 8-29-2008 at 08:43 AM

Hey Gypsy;
Nice loveshack! How are youse guys holding the property? Private lease? Fideocomiso? Corporation?
I need to come over to your side of baja some time. I hear it is a fishy place!!

Bajagypsy - 8-29-2008 at 08:56 AM

thanks for all the well wishes, Shari you'r correct, we will need smoke signals for sea weed wraps and drinky drinks!!

Martyman, our property is in a corporation, it is working well for us.

DianaT - 8-29-2008 at 04:23 PM

Good to see the work begin.

Good Luck
Diane

Lauriboats - 8-30-2008 at 06:13 AM

Bajagypsy,
Congratulations, how exciting. I love your view, I set outside of the Sunset House in March watching whales for hours. Stop by for a visit the next time your in the neighborhood. Our place should be done next month. Lauri

Tiomiguel - 8-31-2008 at 07:06 PM

Congratulations Gypsies to the wonderful world of construction in Mexico. I can certainly vouch that Shari does great work. Sounds like things are really popping. I know that Shari did a great job negotiating internet for the Beach house which will be much appreciated this year. Another job well done Shari. Hope to see the Gypsies down there this Christmas.

Iflyfish - 8-31-2008 at 07:39 PM

How cool is that. It has it's own pyramid too!

Keep the pics coming, we really love watching these projects grow.

Lots of wonderful Nomads to visit in this great place! Saludos to all!

Felicades, Gypsies!

Mulegena - 8-31-2008 at 09:48 PM

Let the construction commence!!!

Keep in touch and post your progress.

Mick & I are stilll mucking out the casa on the river--
AND we're still smiling

Barbareno - 9-1-2008 at 06:47 AM

Right on Bajagypsy and Todd. Nice view. I have this visual now of all these smoke signals going on.

Love to hear about all the progress that will go on.

Barb

Al G - 9-1-2008 at 07:10 AM

Congratulations, Bajagypsy!!!
I have a question. Those are the widest footings I have ever seen(for that small of casa) I guess because of sand, but can anyone explain better? Will the stem be poured inside, outside, or middle? woops....forgot it will be block so middle right?

Bajagypsy - 9-1-2008 at 09:39 AM

Thanks again for all the well wishes.

Barb, I'll have to start training for the drinking olympics that I'm sure will go on!!

Al G, the reason for the wid footings, is that it is going to be a two story building. A shed/storageroom on the bottom floor, and a guest house on the second floor!

When we get more pics, I'll post them.

Bajagypsy - 9-11-2008 at 10:54 AM

ok more excitment we have rebar now!!!!

Bajagypsy - 10-4-2008 at 03:17 PM

So Shari sent us more picture last night. It is getting really really hard not to rob a bank, and just move on down!

Mulegena - 10-4-2008 at 04:55 PM

Good for you guys!

When you coming down?

Bajagypsy - 10-4-2008 at 05:33 PM

It won't be for a bit. I'm hoping before june of next year, but won't hold my breath!!!!

fishsticker - 10-4-2008 at 06:44 PM

Was it necessary to obtain enviromental reports or permits to start construction in this area of Baja?

Bajaboy - 10-4-2008 at 07:02 PM

Excellent...the guys working on your place are great. They built a planter/wall at our place and I couldn't have been happier. We head down in about three weeks and have a lot of work planned and/or in progress. I can't wait.

Keep up the dream!

Zac

Bajagypsy - 10-4-2008 at 07:13 PM

How exciting Bajaboy, your baby will be a true Baja traveler! I'm so excited for you guys!

Fishsticker, we had to get building permits, and the OK from the city before we did anything.

work resumed on new cantina

shari - 10-4-2008 at 08:16 PM

So it's a race to see who will finish first...good to see work progressing on Asuncion's new bar. It will be a great place to sit and wait for Juan to get in from fishing...it's just in front of the cove where we launch. PERFECT!

I'm really happy for you Bajagypsy.

Bajagypsy - 10-5-2008 at 06:36 AM

Barbareno, do ya wanna rob a bank with me?! i'm sure us girls can do a good enough job, and get all the money we need!!

I love Shari and I love my work crew!!!!

Barbareno - 10-5-2008 at 07:12 AM

Barb

Bajagypsy - 10-5-2008 at 07:35 AM

Iflyfish - 10-12-2008 at 09:23 AM

Be sure and have them connect the ground wire, many builders do not in Mexico, easy to do and provides safety from electrocution.

Iflyfish

docsmom - 10-12-2008 at 10:55 AM

Oh congrats Gypsies!
Thanks for letting me live vicariously through you!
:)

Bajagypsy - 10-14-2008 at 05:42 PM

Another update, I swear, these guys are WORKIN!!!

Barbareno - 10-16-2008 at 06:13 AM

I'll say they are working. Its going up fast.

Yeah, Shari hung it up with a sign saying, "I'm your boss I love you"!

It seems to be working :dudette:

Tiomiguel - 10-16-2008 at 12:53 PM

This is record time for sure to get this far. What a fast and good looking job they are doing. I see they are using our close together roof supports for the second floor. These guys need to stick around and do some other places as well. There is lots of work for good workers down in BA.
The first thing I need the Gypsies to put in is the compressor to fill tanks so Diver and I can bring down some dive tanks and stop using the old hookah's. Then the next is to find some tanks for down there as well that we can use. Oh well lets see how the crew does on the inside now. Great pics Shari.

Cypress - 10-16-2008 at 01:22 PM

It's looking good!!!:bounce:

Bajagypsy - 10-17-2008 at 05:02 AM

More updates!!!

Russ - 10-17-2008 at 06:14 AM

I'm glad your 1st floor went up in record time. I don't want to start a negative trend here but stick framing is not one of you contractors strong points. http://www.hometime.com/Howto/projects/framing/frame_3.htm

[Edited on 10-17-2008 by Russ]

Cypress - 10-17-2008 at 06:24 AM

There's a lot of space between those 2x4 studs!:o

Von - 10-17-2008 at 06:35 AM

Thats really cool, Im happy now WE all have new spot in baja we can all visit.:bounce::bounce:

Bajagypsy - 10-17-2008 at 07:38 AM

Don't worry about the spaceing of the studs, it has been corrected. MR. Gypsy almost had a heart attack when he saw the pictures. The studs will be every 16".

Russ - 10-17-2008 at 07:44 AM

Me too! I didn't want to be too negative with your dream. Now I'm HAPPY!

Bajagypsy - 10-17-2008 at 08:49 AM

Thanx Russ!

Cypress - 10-17-2008 at 12:23 PM

It's looking like Mr. Gypsy is keeping a close eye on the construction.:bounce: And is on top of the situation.

Bajagypsy - 10-17-2008 at 12:51 PM

Mr. Gypsy is a project manager for construction here in Canada, he watches everything

Iflyfish - 10-17-2008 at 03:38 PM

Way cool! Those guys are rockin! Thanks for sharing this wonderful adventure with us.

Iflyfish

ELINVESTIG8R - 10-17-2008 at 04:59 PM

Looking beautiful.

The View, oh my god the view

Bajagypsy - 10-17-2008 at 06:46 PM

WEll the project manager with the mostest (Shari), has sent us some pictures of todays progress. I must say, I would sell my left arm for a trip to Baja at the moment (know anyone who wants a left arm?!?)

[Edited on 10-18-2008 by Bajagypsy]

shari - 10-17-2008 at 06:56 PM

OMG...the view from up there is to die for!!!! Unobstructed view of the sunrise AND sunset!!! NOw you can spy on us, jdtrotter, laurieboats AND the new cantina!!! YOu can see the bar (which they worked on for a week or so) on the 3rd photo down kinda in the middle...talk about queen of the castle! I want a 2nd floor now!
Don't worry about the lack of roof beams...it will be a lamina roof and the wood will be plastered over so it will all match.

Bajagypsy - 10-17-2008 at 06:59 PM

LOL,

I'm sure if you , barbareno, and me yell loud enough, Todd will be able to get our slightly typsy bodies home!!!!

You can come on over and stay the night at the quest house any time... and look at the view........

[Edited on 10-18-2008 by Bajagypsy]

Packoderm - 10-17-2008 at 10:25 PM

I'd want a 2nd story deck on each side of the house in order to kick back and watch the sunrise and sunset. That way you get a view of the water while getting shelter from the wind regardless if the wind is blowing either direction. Lamina roof? is that good on a flat roof or they going to frame in a pitched roof? It has been totally fun watching this amazing thread, and I click on it every time I see it bumped to the top.

Barbareno - 10-18-2008 at 05:15 AM

We are gonna have so much fun! :bounce:

This would be a great spot for me to learn how to make BajaGringo's Cadillac Margarita.

Bajagypsy can you imagine the star gazing and whale watching you can do from up there?

We'll be able to see the boys coming in from fishing...there will be lots of warning.

Barb

Bajagypsy - 10-18-2008 at 06:49 AM

Packoderm, thanks for enjoying it, I am very excited and want to share my excitment!!

Barbareno, We are gonna have fun! Just wait for the house that we build, we are going to have a roof top deck!!!!

Paulina - 10-18-2008 at 07:31 AM

I second Pacoderm's idea regarding the decks. Your view will increase by tenfold, plus it will make for shade down below and more patio space for hanging out. This has been a fun thread, and we check on it too everytime it surfaces on the today's posts.

I bet you can't wait for your first night there!!!!

P<*)))>{

Iflyfish - 10-18-2008 at 10:02 AM

Wow!!! Now I am impressed!!

Iflyfish

Tiomiguel - 10-18-2008 at 06:41 PM

I agree that a second floor deck is cool and we can't wait to see our deck and sit and get some rays there. You can have a third floor deck on that place which would be really neat. Gypsy you never did answer me as to when you are going to get the compressor down there for everybody.

Bajagypsy - 10-23-2008 at 11:25 AM

Well more progress! I'm so excited

Bajagypsy - 11-5-2008 at 07:40 PM

Newest and the picture that makes me very very happy!!!

Bob H - 11-5-2008 at 07:53 PM

Wow, Bajagypsy.... we were out of the country for a month and I just clicked on this link for the first time. I scrolled through and could see this "shed" going up sweetly and quickly. Are you sure this is a "shed"? Looks pretty nice to me! Great views. Looks like they are doing a very nice job for you.
Bob H

bajadock - 11-5-2008 at 07:55 PM

BG and Shari,
Thanks for construction photos. There has been a dearth of nomad construction reporting this year. I love watching homes take shape.

Gotta love unique design or fun elements, but, nothing beats an ocean view. For me, simple is best. CONGRATS on your LOONIE investment.

Paulina - 11-5-2008 at 08:21 PM

I bet you can't wait to get down there! With each update/photo it must make the wait seem longer for you.

P<*)))>{

Bob and Susan - 11-6-2008 at 05:13 AM

for us simpletons...

"There has been a dearth of nomad construction"

dearth = scarcity

i have never used the word "dearth"
now..."loonie" is another case:spingrin::spingrin:

Thank you for all the nice reply's. It is KILLING me to watch the process and not be there!!! Thank god Shari is there over seeing every aspect of the process and sending us pictures. I don't even want to know what type of gong show this would have been with out Shari. Good friends are hard to come by, and I truly say that Shari is a good, good friend.

shari - 11-6-2008 at 08:21 AM

The sea murals are gonna look SOOOO cool on those big walls!!! CAn't wait.

Bajagypsy - 11-6-2008 at 08:34 AM

I know I'm way exited!

BajaGringo - 11-9-2008 at 10:20 AM

BajaGypsy - the place is looking great and congrats on your new beachpad. Thanks Shari for posting the photos so we can share in the excitement.

I can see that I will need to make a trip down to give you a lesson in the proper technique of creating the world's best Cadillac Margarita to enjoy from your new place.

Life is good...

Udo - 11-9-2008 at 07:35 PM

I would like to Thank Shari and the Ants for the wonderful job that they did. It is truly amazaing to see your dream start to take shape!! Can't wait to get there next year, and Asuncion better be prepared, as it will be one heck of a party!!!!!

Beauty. Bajagypsy you must be going nuts. My stomach just did a flip flop seeing your guest house. Can only imagine what your's is doing.

Barb

Russ - 11-20-2008 at 06:15 AM

Bajagypsy.... Very cool! You'll be moved in in no time at all now. However I'm really concerned about one major default..... Where's the garage???? This is something that I've found extremely important. Seems I never have enough garage space.

Bajagypsy - 11-20-2008 at 08:19 AM

Russ, my husband is going to hate not having a garage, the bottom portion will have to do as the shed/garage. He will miss his garage at home i know it!

Iflyfish - 11-20-2008 at 09:19 AM

That is so cool!!! Amazing how fast they have done this!

Iflyfish

Lauriboats - 11-20-2008 at 05:32 PM

We drove by today, they did a great job on your stairs, looking forward to the party.

bajaandy - 11-20-2008 at 08:01 PM

I am SO impressed by the rapid construction! But to heck with that... I just want to be there for the inaugural party!!! Congrats on a way-cool project. I'm just envious all over. Thanks for sharing your little project with us.

Yeah, we need the date for that PARTY, for sure! The place looks GREAT! I still can't believe you are calling this a SHED. When you are ready for the party, just post it using the subject line "SHED PARTY"... to let everyone know.

Bob H

Bajagypsy - 11-21-2008 at 07:22 AM

Do not worry, when the gypsy's finally get down to our shed, EVERYONE will know!!!!

shari - 11-21-2008 at 07:26 AM

Hey amigos, I'm thinkin maybe we should combine the shed inauguration party with the annual whale extravaganza in late february....hmmmmm....could be epic....

Bajagypsy - 11-21-2008 at 11:28 AM

Shari, I'm quite sure if we combined the annual whale extravaganza and the shed inauguration, some of us (read me) will probably be in jail:biggrin:

shari - 11-21-2008 at 11:39 AM

that might be kinda fun...a real baja adventure....and would give nomads lots to laugh about

Waterman - 12-3-2008 at 12:46 AM

I do believe I saw a nice little peak breaking over a reef directly in front of the new Cantina.... Very nice ;)

Do they sell insulation that wide? I know that 16" on center is the most common. I'd want insulation to at least keep some of the noise out in case of all night Musica parties, "Oompa! Oompa!"
