tijiuana sentri directions

Bajafun777 - 8-30-2008 at 02:33 PM

OK everyone, I am in Rosarito and getting conflicting information. Some say the confusion is the construction currently being done on the roadways. First I was told the only way to get to the sentri was from the free road. Then I was told, No, that you could get there by staying in the far right hand lane after crossing over the bridge. So, I am looking for advice from you guys as I know you probably have the straight scoop. And if from the free road my additional question would be ... When would I have to get off the toll road (as I would rather stay on the toll as long as I can. Later Bajafun777

Fernando, thanks and I will try this route and hopefully no construction going on to mess me up. The wireless here at the hotel keeps kicking me off and on making replying and asking questions hard that is why I have a double post here. Later-------- bajafun777

Just an update on this Sentri crossing in T.J. Well, no rode construction and the Sentri site with map on the mark but the police had it closed off after you went around the last turning in the center statue going up one block to turn back off to go straight to Sentri. So, I went straight past the statue about two long blocks and turned to my left going North back to the border. It took me into the Sentri line with cars not wanting to let me in and the sign in the lane I needed had a single arrow pointing down indicating one lane only for Sentri. Well, I go behind a bus that pushed its way in and going toward the commerical lanes for buses and got a chance to force my way into this one Sentri line. Well, as with all signs giving directions in Mexico it was not just one line and I did not have to stress about it after all. Well, I will know for the next time. I still think Mexicali's Sentri is the easiest to get to and cross hands down all the time. Later-----bajafun777

Try the Otay SENTRI crossing.....easy, fast, no problema!!!!

Bajaguy, I tried the Otay Sentri and ended up on top of the bridge looking down at the road going into the Sentri that was moving fast and I was stuck. It seems to me that Mexico should and could put up proper signs leading to the Sentri not hiding them like they do. Again, the easiest Sentri so far I have, even been to Nogales and its a mess, is Mexicali's Sentri and it is well signed and blocked far enough back to get you into it without problems. I just need to cross these more and get the route down, so I can make it in and out like an old pro. I think I do have the T.J. one down now but I plan to go on my motorcycle in the near future and I will have it Sentri approved also. Even without Sentri as most know motorcycles go where no car or truck ventures. Later------------------------ bajafun777

I use my SENTRI pass a couple/few times a month and have developed the habit of avoiding the SY border crossing if there are over 300 cars in the regular lanes and/or 100 cars in the SENTRI lanes because the congestion/wait is just too much for me to deal with.

I listen to Radio Latina, 104.5 for info, which has frequent updates but you need to get used to fast talking Spanish radio announcers. It's not hard though because the traffic report is always preceded by the same jingle and structured in the same manner. I think they're every 10 minutes or so.

I'm wondering if there are any other nomad frequent crossers who have developed their own methods for finding out how busy the border is when in Mexico and rules for deciding it's too busy to even try.

My longest wait at the Otay SENTRI crossing has been 20 minutes. I just wing it.

Use Radio Latina online report:
