Photos of Gecko Flood

Santiago - 9-3-2008 at 10:04 PM

Just got back a few hours ago and here's a link to the photos of the flash flood in Gecko that occured on Saturday. I was alone in the camp and ran around in a thunder storm taking pictures.
This will only be of interest to those in Gecko. The road from BOLA town south is passable as of yesterday with a couple of washouts but work-arounds were in place. Big boats might want to launch in town and stay on the hook while in camp. No real damage to any unit unit but Doc and Beach Bob both saw water where they hadn't before.
Fuller report when I recover from the San Quintin/Sacto drive.

Thanks Jim... Glad you are okay...

I haven't been to Gecko since '05 when Doc ended the camping and cabin feature there... So, I don't recognize the place anymore!

Do you know if fellow Nomads (4baja, Bedman, Debra, FrankO/Soulpatch, AhaBaja, etc.) who have places there have anything to be concerned about?

Thanks again and have a safe drive to the Delta!

Paulina - 9-4-2008 at 12:03 AM

Thanks for the photos Jim. We're never there when exciting stuff happens! It looks like someone has a leaning tower of bahia in his front yard...

Dern wants to know if you still have the palm fronds that you wanted to get rid of? Anyway, if you still have them and they haven't washed way and you still want to be rid of them, he's willing to take them off of your hands. Let me know. He's leaving this Friday, the 5th.

He was also wondering what the name of the roofing material was that you used. (I'm too lazy to do a search). So I'd love it if you'd help me out there too.

Thanks again for the photos.

55steve - 9-4-2008 at 11:02 AM

Thanks for the pics! Cliff & I are planning on coming down soon - looks like we'll be doing some cleanup...

Bob and Susan - 9-4-2008 at 01:34 PM

I was watching the guy digging those holes and they are definately 3' deep!

Bob and Susan - 9-4-2008 at 04:31 PM

soulpatch ...
maybe build up a foot or two...
the water would then go around...
now's the time to correct the problem:light:

David K - 9-4-2008 at 04:37 PM

Exactly... water has a much harder time flowing uphill or pooling higher than the surrounding terrain!

Paulina - 9-4-2008 at 08:00 PM

You guys might also find yourselves digging new septic tanks too. They may be filled with the other brown stuff after having that amount of water flowing by. I'm sure we will be in that same boat as well.

P<*)))>{

ps. Thanks for the u2u Jim.

Bob and Susan - 9-4-2008 at 08:24 PM

actually septic tanks are always full of water and
of course the correct other brown stuff:biggrin:

shari - 9-5-2008 at 07:35 AM

Wow, that's freaky Jim....love your place and look forward to assisting you in your wine consumption on your patio some day. Gee...I'm glad you were there to witness this little flood...so it looks like this could be a problem if there was a serious rain????

Martyman - 9-5-2008 at 08:20 AM

As far as the septic tanks filling up.
It hardly fecal matters!!:cool::tumble:

 Good one Martyman. I'm not sure how your house is set up, if you've changed anything since my mom had it before you, but a lot of the old school systems are nothing more than a hole in the ground lined with rocks or cinderblock, with a cement top. When we get the big rains the septics tend to fill up with the run off.

It doesn't matter for part timers, but for frequent visitors or fulltimers, it will matter when you're having to pay to have a new one dug.

Cheers, and keep an eye on your shower drain as well as the one out your back door....

Thanks Jim.
I forwarded the album to my in-laws. They have a "river runs through it" at their place north of you.
They are up here now. The yard is probably rearranged a bit.

(Said in a Dundee voice)

The good news is that the report of the demise of my boat motor and trailer in San Nicolas were pre-mature. Here is is in the debris.

Debra - 9-9-2008 at 01:06 PM

Cant't tell from the pics. Is my concrete block wall still up? How about my rocks for my property line? Thanks Santiago for the time you took doing this for us.

Santiago - 9-9-2008 at 01:20 PM

All rocks on your rear (hehe) are gone. Your block wall is still up. The bathroom is not complete.

Debra - 9-9-2008 at 01:34 PM

Thanks Jim.........I busted my back moving those rocks!!!!! DRAT!!!!!

Glad to hear the blocks are still up though,......So, I don't have to dig my house out as of yet then?

Is Macrino still in M.C.? I'll bet he did't do a bit of work after the day I left

aha baja - 9-10-2008 at 01:52 AM

Yeh it is nice to have a place in Mexico, just not to the Betty Ford Clinic.Allso the good thing about having a place in Mexico is that people know where to come by and visit. Or not.

GeoRock - 9-16-2008 at 03:13 AM

Thanks for the photos. I figure my house is probably just fine, but if anyone is in Gecko or headed that way, a check on it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
GeoRock

David A. - 9-16-2008 at 06:17 AM

Georock,
Stevo (4baja) is there right now. He has his camera and new antenna for his laptop with him. He told me he will be posting here if the system is availabe.

[Edited on 9-16-2008 by David A.]

Paulina - 9-16-2008 at 08:20 AM

Hi David,

Is Steve hoping to pick up Doc's wireless? Is that they system you're refering too?

Just curious.

P<*)))>{

Martyman - 9-16-2008 at 10:02 AM

I checked bloodydecks to see if Steve (4baja) posted there but, no. Ten days and counting for me. Yipee!

David A. - 9-16-2008 at 11:15 AM

Yes he is Paulina. We can pick it up while standing on the top of the deck. It is hard to see the screen while in the hot sun. We are going to pick an antenna up before we leave in the middle of Nov.

David A. - 9-16-2008 at 12:33 PM

GeoRock,
Check your U2U.

Santiago - 9-16-2008 at 04:05 PM

GoeRock: I didn't notice anything wrong with your place.

GeoRock - 9-17-2008 at 01:33 PM

Thanks for checking. Since we put a wall on the backside of the car port, no rains have been washing into the house. Seems to have permanently diverted that problem.

Hoping to get south before year's end...was planning on October but that has been delayed.
