Civility on BajaNomad

DENNIS - 9-21-2008 at 06:21 PM

I Posted this on another thread but, I think it needs full exposure. Please post your opinion. Our life depends on it.

"So..Shark17, Whalemeat and our favorite Bajajack have joined forces with disruption in mind. They have nothing Baja or better to do. They're here to give misery and bust up a community that is single minded, that being Baja.
Do those of us who have a Baja agenda put up with this in the interest of the first ammendment or do we repell from the infection and as a collective voice of individuals tell them to leave us alone in our endeavor.
There are others here who would fit in nicely with this group and they're welcome to join them.
I, for one, am sick and tired of people butting into my conversation with vitriolic nonsense. It isn't my intention to entertain these attacks nor is it my pleasure to see them. They're senseless.
That is the word I apply to these above mentioned pests, and a few more... senseless. They have nothing to offer other than disruption.

What do we do? How do we do it? Think of the friends you used to have here but left for this reason and ask them for a reason why we should stay here.
Perhaps this a microcosm of the world. Will good triumph over bad?
I think the future of BajaNomad depends on the answer."

When I spoke of the member who said the video crashed part of her computer I was talking about Bajajudy. She has helped hundreds of members, travelers, locals, Mexican charities, local charitable causes to the point where she is known by those recipientes to be kind and thoughtful. Baja Nomad board has helped her spread her good will. She is but one of hundreds of likeminded gringos and others who have use the board to do good. How can someone new to the board say "That and a nickle can get you a cup of coffee?"

vandenberg - 9-21-2008 at 06:31 PM

Hey Dennis,
Don't let them get to you.
During your absence we managed nicely to aggravate some of these clowns enough to make them post enough sh*t to get them banned . I believe about 4 or 5 of them.
So, keep up the good work folks.

All you noob's be very cautious

Bajajack - 9-21-2008 at 06:37 PM

don't ask any questions or make any statements or you will be exiled to the mainland.

bajabound2005 - 9-21-2008 at 06:47 PM

Well, we can settle it this way...if DENNIS shows up. Brunch in Punta Banda next Sunday, that would be Sept 26 ....11ish or so (that's AM). Bring nothing, unless, of course, you want to take cuttings from our many succulents. Provide your own container "para llevar".) email or u2u for directions.

Russ - 9-21-2008 at 06:47 PM

I've noticed a definite change for the better over the last two months for the better. I do believe that there is a power that has takien our forum, held it up a shook some of the pests out. Also, I haven't been reading a post once I've seen it going south. Thanks

Jack and whalemeat, why so defensive? I think we Nomads welcome questions, statements and opinions, we just don't like to be insulted. Do you generally call your friends marooons? Do you know how to express differences of opinion without attacking the person you're conversing with? Extra consideration and civility are called for when you are interfacing with people you have never met-- electronic messages are not as forgiving as face to face conversation. Most of us have had to learn that as we grow into this new form of communication.
I can generally bypass rude speech here, giving it little thought. But I am aware of the many voices we don't hear much from these days, and I think the thoughtlessness of a few posters has cost the rest of us some enjoyable friendships. I hope the offenders will mellow out and begin to relax and enjoy the board in a more positive way.

This is a good example of what seems to me to be "hostile" and loonie, and designed to make others uncomfortable, resulting in my saying, "this ain't fun or productive anymore". I don't understand it, or where it is coming from, or to what end it is intended, other than the sadistic delight in making others uncomfortable. What a shame. This is NOT the purpose of this board, it seems to me. It will ruin it eventually, like other similar boards have been ruined in the past.

So, I agree with Dennis------who needs this extreme vitriol from folks I have never even met before, either on this board or in person. Based on what they (some) display up to now, I have no interest in ever knowing them. If I could think of a way to change them, or even influence them, I would----in the mean time they have caused me to lose interest in an otherwise fine "board".

Viva Baja.

Just my 2 cents----

Barry

And, another one.

whalemeat - 9-21-2008 at 07:21 PM

Who will be replaced by others. The cycle continues.

What a peculiar logic----------and a logic that I find depressing. Already I don't like this individual, and I don't even know him.

Jeeeeze------

Barry A. - 9-21-2008 at 07:28 PM

Oxxo------Dennis was being defensive, and aggressively so------and that is appropriate when being attacked, it seems to me. So your point is not totally understood my me, anyway.

(now we are fighting amongst ourselves----probably an intended consequence by the "newby". This is nuts-----)

barry

Bajajack - 9-21-2008 at 07:28 PM

Did somebody say, Hostile Takeover.

So Barry, the following is not vitriol? Just trying to understand your definition of vitriol.

OK? Fair enough? And by the way, I don't have to answer to you. WTF are you? The board snitch?

Oxxo----we are cross-posting-------I address your question in the post before yours.

I intially didn't say anything to or about DENNIS and then he gets on my case. I was going to ignore it, but he just keeps it up. DENNIS is the agresssor. What gives him the right to "bust my balls" when he goes whining when someone "busts his balls?"

I think newbies have just as much right to defend themselves aggressively when being attacked, as DENNIS has.

Sometimes Newbies have made inappropriate posts, sometimes DENNIS has, and sometimes I have. Maybe all of us have made an inappropriate post a time or two. That is what the report button is for. But what I don't understand is why some Newbies are censored or banned while DENNIS isn't, when they have done no more than DENNIS has.

We all have different perspectives------Dennis's comments has never offended me----some of the "newbys" have-------who knows who is actually right, but it is all pretty unpleasant it seems to me.

Nuff said, I am thinking.

Did I say that? I don't recall saying that, not that I didn't. Could you please direct me to the thread in which I'm being quoted.

Paulina - 9-21-2008 at 07:52 PM

I blame the lack of civility that is so prevelent on this board for the loss of some great posters who were a wealth of information. It has also caused me to not recommend the Nomad board to others who could have benefited from it. It's embarrassing.

DENNIS, I owe you an apology. You did not say that, it was Shark18. I shot from the lip and I was wrong.

I apologize

A noble idea; but, it's much like taking on the objective of herding a bunch of cats. :tumble:
