New POE Otay East

Mexicali_Kid - 9-25-2008 at 07:46 AM

A new Port of Entry, Otay East, (2.5 km east of the current Otay Mesa entry), has been authorized according to Rep Bob Filner, author of the legislation.

Interesting---thanks.

Lost track of the proposed one for the playas---is that one alive or dead?

Otay East would be even closer to the Blvd. 2000 free highway bypassing Tijuana... I wonder if by then we can get Ferna's blessing to use it?:light:

Maybe with another crossing there would be an increase in traffic and maybe patrol----so it might become a safer road instead of a graveyard. Ferna and the other locals will be the ones to know.

I hope so! Nothing wrong with lots of police or army patrolling the roads in Mexico, IMO!

One of the motivations for the Otay East crossing is to provide a better connection to the Blvd 2000. I heard they will probably be installing a toll booth on each end.

The Playas crossing has a lot of support from everyone except the Sierra Club who has lobbied heavily against it to protect species/habitat on the north side of the border there...

It seems to me that with the current bulldozing and infilling of Smugglers Gulch- the Sierra Club has already lost that battle. WHy not build something usable on top of the million cubic feet of fill like a border crossing into Imperial Beach?

For selfish reasons, I would hate to see it come into Imperial Beach.

Why? Do you sell trinkets at the San Ysidro POE or something?

No, look at my Avatar---we live in both Bahia Asuncion and in Imperial Beach----don't want more traffic even though it would be convenient. Then again, if the stock market keeps having problems, we might be selling trinkets at the border.

As it is, we always return through Tecate----would rather drive the extra miles than wait in that line.
