if it is a street legal scooter with a plate you need registration. don't worry about title. do you bring title on your regular vehicle? if you're towing it and it's a dirt bike don't worry about it.

When BajaMur and I crossed in Mexico (Tijuana) with a m/c and quad in back of his truck we were red lighted into secondary and asked for ownership (registration) proof for both machines... One was recently purchased and Mur didn't have the new registration yet... It was early (4 am) and those guys didn't have much else to do... But, we just waited them out... we didn't offer a bribe to speed up the process... eventually they waved us on... Mur and I were happy they didn't return us to the U.S. because of the temp. papers from DMV, but it was threatened...

A few hours later that same day, we were on the road to Mision Santa Maria:

My dirt bike is titled and registered in CA. I carry a copy of the registation and an expired drivers license when I ride.

I don't like city cyle driving so I opted to rent a cargo van in Chula Vista and drive it across to Mexico. Didn't stop at the declaration or revision area. Many people bring their toys across with them for the weekend or longer.

Current registration only needed (in your name). If you were to bring the Title and show them, they think you are selling it Mexico, which I guess is some kind of crime, at that particular moment of course...

You need the registration or some proof of ownership, I don't think they care if it is current, just as long as the numbers match. They randomly stop you at the border and ask. If you have more bikes than people they sometimes won't let you across because they think you are bringing them down to sell. I have had friends sent back across the border because they didn't have paperwork for their bikes.

Hello,
I was wondering if you could tell me exactly what is required to bring a bike over the mexican border. Ive been told that you have to have the pink slip with you, the original? is that true? Im still waiting for mine from the state. I have aa 640 adventure, how did your 900 ktm fair? Also what kind of insurance do you recommend? what is mandatory? I'd like to drive down about half way on the pac side then switch to the sea of cortez side on the way back, can you recommend a good root?

cheers

"Im fitting out my scooter in San diego"

you are going to do this on a SCOOTER???

bajalou - 9-28-2008 at 05:14 PM

They have always wanted ORIGINAL registration - no photo copies. Never cared about titles but they would work as proof of ownership.
