Gunmen open fire on US consulate in Mexico

MONTERREY, Mexico (AP) — A federal official says assailants opened fire on the U.S. consulate in the northern Mexican city of Monterrey.
A spokeswoman for Mexico's Attorney General's office who is not authorized two give her name says shell casings were found outside the consulate. But
there are no witnesses and no one is in custody.
The spokeswoman had no further details.
Mexican media report that one man opened fire on the consulate and another man threw a grenade that failed to explode. El Universal newspaper, citing
a U.S. Embassy statement, reports the attack happened before dawn Sunday.
Embassy officials could not be reached for comment early Monday. |
