the "Fishing Fiend"

woody with a view - 10-22-2008 at 09:12 AM

So we have barely been home 36 hours and it seems like we never left, except the cats sure are happy to see us for once! We headed south just as Hurricane Norbert was making landfall. The first morning we could see the outflow from the hurricane to the south as we drove towards it. Those were the only clouds we saw for the next 11 days!

this is not deja vu. my wife was hooking into the most, biggest fish of all of us. every morning we would walk down the beach and chuck chunks of pismo clams. here is her best spotfin croaker. 28.5 inches. 1/2 inch short of my world record:rolleyes:.

Three days before we were to leave we hooked up with Capitan Martin to take us out on his panga for a morning of Yellowtail and Calico Bass fishing. We went about 3 miles straight out and had a blast. Every drop to the bottom would be a HUGE Calico like these.

the next morning we decided to give Martin one last chance. i had promised Bia she would be fishing her ta taas off and she STILL hadn't got her yellowtail, although she was kicking our collective asses on the beach. after about 1/2 hour of those pesky over sized mackerel, i mean bonito, she caught her biggest fish so far!!!! suffice to say she was happy!!!

Back on the beach with our catch. Final score was Bia had two Yellowtail and broke one off. I had one Yellowtail and Martin had one. The “Fishing Fiend” did alright!

P.S. the surf was crappy except for last wednesday. chest high and no wind. i got one good wave and 3-4 others...total cost of the trip $150/wave but happy wife = priceless.

oh, and BTW, the day we left Betita wanted to go down the beach and find, "one more clam" to toss towards another huge corvina or croaker. i had to tell the girl that it would be okay if she were to actually leave a fish in the ocean, until next time!

she wasn't too happy with my response until i reminded her that she would have to wait another hour or so to get home and get a shower if she went fishing.

edit: foto of the pre-shower discussion.

oh yeah, forgot about the butts! tried several krocs and only time i got a hit i thought the fish spit the hook. when i reeled in to cast again i found a fish eyeball impaled on one of the trebles. so if anyone catches a one eyed fish near GN, i want half.

Even without great surf, sounds like you had a really great time---both of you.

Really enjoyed your pix and report---how long before the next trip?

Woody...if your wife doesn't already know, tell her she has an
infectious smile. Can feel the warmth coming off of her.

I will be down there to ring in the new year...
Hope the butts get kickin by then, doubt the tails will still be hangin around.
Hopefully there is a steep northwest to line the right from the third point.
Great job on the fish!

BornFisher - 11-1-2008 at 06:54 PM
