Fire On The Plateau

BajaGeoff - 10-22-2008 at 04:17 PM

I crossed the border this morning and could see either smoke or fog in the distance. Once I got further south, it was obviously a sizable fire and was moving west pretty quickly. It was hard to tell exactly where it had originated....but my best guess would be somewhere east of La Mision. Any Nomads in the area have more info about the fire?

Dianaji lives in that area and should be able to report to us.

The fire was behind La Mision

and to the north towards Primo Tapia . Big fire today. It was very dark here, the smoke and ash were over us all day. The sun was fuchsia when looking through the smoke. It was actually quite beautiful. We had to take some gas out to one of our friends in the La Mision Valley on the way to the Indian reservation. Some one had stolen the gas can and gas he had just gotten to fill his truck. We were afraid if the fire turned around with the wind tonight he wouldn't be able to get out. Late in the afternoon the smoke died way down hopefully they've got it under control now. I haven't heard anything from anyone else yet. Don't know if there were any homes involved. I heard it may have all been the dairy pasture land but that is strictly rumor .I'll write more if I hear anything tomorrow. k

don't exactly live there yet, however, go about every other weeks to check on things and progress of my new mobile home. but did stay on monday and tuesday, leaving wednesday morning. saw no indication of any fire. just planted a cactus garden and will send pics when i figure out how to post them.

when i got to the border, for the first time, they asked me what i had in my cooler, and i said, an apple, some cheese, and i got scolded for having the apple. i told them that i had brought the apple from the US, and just didn't eat it yet. they then told me that once it gets into mexico, it is from mexico and then told me about all of the horrible things about bringing back fruit from mexico, and then sent me thru this place where me and my car was scanned. then went into my cooler and also found a pomegranite (also from the states) and told me that they must take it. however, nothing was mentioned about the 1/2 watermelon and they left it in the cooler (it was purchased in mexico) go figure. so, now i have now learned a new lesson! EAT ALL FRUIT BEFORE RETURNING TO THE STATES! i always bring fruit with me and my cooler has never been questioned. one time they did look into my cooler and there was an apple inside and nothing was mentioned about it.

this has been one adventuresome trip this time....but at least didn't get lost.

Same thing happened to me a year or so ago when I took two avacados down and didn't eat them. Coming back they found them in the cooler and off to seconday they sent me. 15 minutes later with a letter explaining what can and can't be brought back I was on my way.

The fire is in the La Mision Canyon
