We've all heard stories of someone finding a bale of "contraband" that has washed up on the beach, my question is :What do you do if you find
something like that? What are the legal requirements if any? Do you leave it and report it, pick it up and take it to the police station or just walk
away as if you didn't see it?
Has anybody had "first hand" experience with something like this?.....dt
Where?

I picked up an MRE (militray rations- Meal Ready to Eat) on the beach last year. Picked it up, took it home, took it apart and ate it to see what it
was like. It was better than I expected with a lot of goodies. The chemical heat system is very interesting.
If I were to find abale of something- I would probably just carry it home. It may be trash, cash or stash. If you don't pick it up- someone else
will. You'd feel pretty stupid if you turn over a hundred thousand in US Dollars cash to anyone. If it's drugs- toss em. No one does the right
thing in Mexico and you don't need to change that- imho.dtbushpilot - 10-27-2008 at 10:41 AM

In Baja.....
Would there be a different response if it were BCN vs BCS?

Read the book or go see the movie before you answer- then you'll know how dumb it might be to pick up the wrong parcel.

It was a little joke.
I actually knew a gal who found a bale washed up on the beach. For a while, she became very popular. Years later she killed three
pedestrians with her car while drunk. Spent 2 years in La Mesa prison.
I guess marijuana is a gateway drug.gnukid - 10-27-2008 at 12:16 PM
You should burn it on the spot.
This solution solves lots of problems, you don't have to transport, you do't have to keep out of the hands of others, you don't have to explain it,
you don't have to do anything but burn it and enjoy a bonfire-problem solved.Iflyfish - 10-27-2008 at 12:20 PM
Did it have a return address on it?

I guess my main question would be: What does the law say about it? If I looked at it and determined that it was bundles of pot do I have some legal
requirement to respond in some certain way?....dt
I'm asking because the topic came up in conversation not "after the fact" of a discovery.....BMG - 10-27-2008 at 01:34 PM

That's the answer. The last bale we found we managed to keep it burning for 9 days.lizard lips - 10-27-2008 at 01:40 PM
The last bundle I found on the beach I married it 18 years ago..........Cypress - 10-27-2008 at 01:44 PM
Better just leave it there. Let the sand have it.motoged - 10-27-2008 at 03:46 PM

Excellent recommendation
Now, that requires a whole lot of ZigZags....or did you use various kitchen implements as pipes?
I must agree that burning the evidence seems sensible
The LAW in Baja ?

ANYONE who found contraband on the beach or elsewhere in Baja and turned to law enforcement would be REALLY Dumb.
I've said before (seriously) if I found anything, including a Dead Body, I'd go on my way and let someone else deal with it.
Of course, I follow that rule even in the U.S. I had a neighbor blow his brains out in his driveway late one night and, after I realized what
happened, went back to bed. When another neighbor who had called the police asked me about it, I expressed SURPRISE !marv sherrill - 10-27-2008 at 05:18 PM
