And when there are dead things on our beach, we sure are glad to see them arrive!

"Jeez, remember when we had hair?"
Great pics, really magestic in flight aren't they?

They are so beautiful airborne. Those wings are perfect.Russ - 10-27-2008 at 04:04 PM
Those are some really good pictures. But, I still think they are revolting on the ground. I'd sure like to soar like they do.DianaT - 10-27-2008 at 04:41 PM

Bet their mothers think they are cute.
They sure do their job well.

Thanks for posting these ... Seeing vultures at the seaside - on the beach -have always amazed and reminded me about the connection between
terrestrial amd marine ecosystems. The ecological connections are endless and they feed us in ways we cannot easily see ...

Most of the time when a group of vultures is gathered on the hwy ahead, if you slow down a little they will scatter before your vehicle gets to them.
But watch out for the slow ones- we recently discovered even a glancing blow to one of these big birds can leave a very big impression on the front
of a cabover camper.
Danger ahead....

.. this bunch made us a little nervous as we came upon them on this frontage road. But a good blast from the airhorn got them up in time.
