El Rey in Loreto

Marie-Rose - 10-27-2008 at 10:25 PM

We are on the road and planning our taco stops. Just want to make sure El Rey is still open... and can someone tell us the hours (Thurs) and directions? It's been 3 years and I did a search and saw some pics... my mouth is watering!!!! Hoping to get there for lunch. What can I say... breakfast at San Ignacio's B&B and taco's at El Rey...
can life be any better!!:bounce::bounce::bounce:

El Ray......

.........is open. Well it was last Friday anyway. Not sure when they open but pretty sure they close up at 3. Coming in from the west end off Mex 1, stay on the main drag until you come to the stop light (now working after three years of not). Turn left there (you will have the big yellow market on the corner). Turn right at the next corner. El Ray is on the right side about a block down and clearly marked. If they are closed then try my fav.....Lulu's Tacos. Rather than turn at the light, continue on through the light. Lulu's is on the left side several hundred yards after the light- always open from 10 AM- 6 PM;D

Strange system

It was always a challenge for me to figure that out.... And we have a (p/t) place in Loreto....

We often heard locally, that they were open when they wanted / needed to earn some $...

After a half dozen or so visits, we finally gave up.

IF you go, and IF they're open, and busy... be sure to go INSIDE, and if you can, get a seat.... If you wait outside at the window, you're lowest priority.... if you stand inside and wait, you're a little higher priority.... if you're taking up seating space, you're more likely to get your food... Took us a few frustrating visits to figure that out too.

I'm sure other Loreto folks have more inside info on this...

Safe trip.

We have always had great service sitting inside at El Rey. We too have had difficulty figuring out their hours, but it seems they close around 2pm.

I think LuLu closed her stand and was going to open a new healthier food restaurant near her home. Any updates on her status?

El Rey opens early and quits when he runs out of food. Sometimes that's before noon...................................On slower days he might be there until 3. And, yes, sometimes he is just not open. I like his business model. He works REALLY hard when he's open, and when he's not open, he's just not open.
