New Calimax Being Built in Maneadero-NOW OPEN!

bajabound2005 - 10-30-2008 at 04:26 PM

There is a new Calimax (Grocery) being built in Maneadero just before the "Y" turn off to La Bufadora if you are southbound. It's going up fast and should be open soon!

This is wonderful news, thanks. That will save us Punta Bandanistas some time. Curious what the caviar selection will be like for our new neighbors.;D

greybaby - 10-30-2008 at 09:14 PM

Big time for Maneadero. We were just there a few weeks ago and missed seeing any construction site.

Paulina - 10-30-2008 at 09:22 PM

We are going to have a Pemex AND a Calimax...life is going to be good. Not having to make that drive into town will be good, the hill before Chapultepec is a killer. I wonder if they'll also have an ATM?

bajabound2005 - 12-12-2008 at 08:59 PM

The new Calimax is OPEN! Can't make any claims as to quality as we have not yet been in but it's a GREAT looking building! At the "Y" just before the turnoff to La Buf when you are headed south. We look forward to our first (and many more) visits to this store.

Paulina - 12-12-2008 at 09:39 PM

How is the new Pemex coming along?

They're stocking the OXXO store now. I hope they include a big ATM. The rest of the station has a ways to go yet and it's difficult to predict in Mexican time but, pronto.

I'm quoting myself but, has anybody ever seen an ATM in an OXXO store in a service station? I don't believe I have.

Paulina - 12-13-2008 at 08:48 AM

I've never seen one, but there's always hope! I'm crossing everything I have that's crossable...

See you soon,

Isn't the new road (that is now under construction) that bypasses Ensenada going to end up in Maneadero?

I don't really know. People keep talking about this road but, I don't even know where it is. I guess I have to get out more.

Udo - 12-13-2008 at 04:18 PM

The new road starts about 5 miles north of the Ensenada toll booth, on the Tecate-Ensenada road.

Here is a photo from that road.
When I tried to drive onto the construction zone to check it out and take photos, the Mextrans people turned me around

I think it's actually going to come out south of Maneadero, near El Zorillo.

Dave - 12-13-2008 at 04:33 PM

There will be a road to the new airport at El Tigre. Maybe this is what you are seeing. I also hear rumors about a new coast road to Colonet but can't confirm anything.

I wonder if they will have an off-ramp for the Baja Country Club:?::?:

I thought you had 4WD, Terry. You'll have to make your own off-ramp.

bajaguy - 12-13-2008 at 05:58 PM

If I do an off ramp, it will have an AM-PM/PEMEX and a Pacifico distributorship!!!!!!

rts551 - 12-13-2008 at 06:11 PM

I thought all you experts would know. The work has been going on for a year.

This will give you some idea. follow the blue line. Sorry I don't have a better picture.

Paulina - 12-13-2008 at 06:17 PM

Almost like a new Blvd. 2000. I would maybe think twice about taking that route.

bajabound2005 - 12-14-2008 at 08:08 AM

This new road is intended to be a truck route.

Hmmmmm 4 lanes? I am glad I have a truck.

fdt - 12-14-2008 at 08:31 AM

No, the "Libramiento Ensenada" will go from the Ensenada-Tecate road to meet with the Ensenada-Ojos Negroas road. It will be a great way to avoid Ensenada totaly say if youre going to Laguna Hanson or San Felipe.
Yes if you are a trucker it will be better for you but it is intended for everyone, specialy since it will make for new housing and industrial developments, just like Blvd 2000.

rts551 - 12-14-2008 at 08:37 AM

Thanks FDT. I started a new thread.

bajabound2005 - 12-17-2008 at 03:57 PM

Back to the subject at hand, the new Calimax - not only is there an ATM there are TWO of them, HSBC and Santander. Neither is functional yet, but they machines are there. The store is VERY NICE, great produce section and the place is well staffed. Now if they can just keep it that way!

As for the new Pemex between Maneadero and La Bufadora, the OXXO store is now open but the pumps are not yet ready.

I'll be going to Maneadero and I'll check it out if the mud in the entrance isn't too deep.
How's the hill into Packard, Kathleen? I'll bet it's like a ski-jump.

Bajahowodd - 12-17-2008 at 05:23 PM

Now, if only we can get a decent market in San Quintin. Or better yet, a bypass road for about 25 miles to avoid all the congestion.

Getting out isn't too bad...I wouldn't want to come down into Packard without 4WD! It's a bit "slippery"! But otherwise, holding up well!

Snow
