We've been tossing the idea around for a while Bob, but the timing isn't quite right for us at this point.

I cant recall ever seeing a tongue weight posted on the side of a trailer. That's something you typically have to get from a certified scale or the
manufacturer.

is it related to GVW? on the title to my recently sold Coachmen RV TT it listed the GVW as 8750 lbs. my hitch and sway bars were rated to 10,000 lbs
on my F250 diesel.

the sticker on the inside cabinet says...
4700 pounds empty

no mention anywhere about the toung weight
the ball on the receiver included with the equilizer hitch is 2 5/16 inch

If you just want a `rough guess' take 15% of the total rig weight.
If you really want the actual tongue weight of your trailer...find a truck scale at any truck stop...pull across the scale, leaving the rear tires of
the tow truck off the scale. Weigh the trailer with the tongue on the truck...write that down....then lower the trailer jack (onto the scale) until
the ball just lifts off. Now read the scale again...the additional weight is the tongue weight.
You can leave the chains and wires connected so it's easy to do. Of course it means taking a bit longer on the scale so you'll have to find an empty
one.
Here's a fun project for you:
You can make your own tongue weight scale by using regular bathroom scale, some lumber, and a high school formula.
Get a 4"x4" wood pole (like you'd use to put up a deck or fence) exactly 4' long. Measure up 1' from one end and make a mark.
Lay the 4x4 on the ground under the hitch, centering the mark you just made under the ball socket.
Block up the "short" end with a brick or a short piece of 4x4.
Put the scale under the "long" end, blocking it up with 2x4s as necessary to get the beam fairly level. Make sure everything is nice and solid, not
ready to fall over.
Cut a piece of 4x4 long enough to fit between the ball socket and the beam. Set this in place, and zero the scale.
Now, let the jack down until the foot JUST starts to come off the ground. This way if something slips, it won't fall.
Walk over and read the scale. Multiply that times four. That's your tongue weight.
note: Neither the dealer or any salesman will never be able to tell you the real tongue weight of any RV trailer, because it varies right after you
drive it off the sales lot. How much one puts in their rig, personal gear, water, extra batteries, food, beer, etc, etc?
