13% of Baja California residents are drug addicts

Daniel de la Rosa, who carries the title of Secretaría de Seguridad Pública of Baja California (Chief of the State Police) has publically announced that 13 out each 100 Baja Californians are addicted to some type of drug.

The Mexicans are quick to place the blame for their uncontrollable crime on the insatiable appetite for drugs in the US. It appears the shoe is on the other foot.

Does that include visitors? I'm concerned that I'm skewing the statistics.

God point ...

I would think that the term Baja Californians refers to those who reside in Baja California,

However, Consider the source,

5 out of 10 southern californians i intervieved (when working)

anecdotally- I see more of the young Mexican men in my neighborhood under the influence of heavy drugs walking around in public. I think the worsening local economy is part of the drug problem. These young men (19-28 ish) don't have good jobs that require them to be clean or sober. Sadly the drug of choice seems to be Crystal Meth- due to the high availablity and low cost. All the street drugs seem to be lower in cost now- maybe the narcos can't move them fast enough north anymore.

Not a good sign Woooosh. Reminds me of what I saw happening to areas of Long Beach where I had a business for many years.

coincidentally, 13% of Alta Californians are smokers -- Baja has about same drug addiction rate as Alta California.

tjBill - 11-10-2008 at 10:34 AM

An article in the LA Times on drug addiction in Mexico, not just Baja, says there are 465 thousand drug addicts in Mexico. That makes it about 0.4% of the population.

Of course, no one knows that the real rate is. These are only estimates. :?:

No, it's not a good sign. I actually had a conversation (sort of) with a 20 something high on crystal neighbor- we know his whole family. His parents want him to go to rehab- but he won't go because he says he will only return to the drugs once he finishes the program- so why waste the time and money. When people have no hope for the future- it really messes with their heads in the present.

If they include alcohol and smokes the numbers will probably go over 60% worldwide!!!

:P

Cypress - 11-10-2008 at 02:40 PM

Yep! We're all addicted to one thing or another. :tumble: Take your pick. Might be Hostess Twinkees, Jack Daniels, or your favorite brew. Do I smell smoke? Could be most anything?:?:

Has anyone seen similar statistics for BCS?

None of the people I interviewed in the methadone clinic could pass the drug test. Think about the population you are sampling before drawing comparisons.

Crystal Meth is everywhere. Truckers and construction workers use it since it enables them to work long hours.

When these tweekers enter you community they lie, cheat, and steal for their habit. In baja they burglarize the vacant homes and steal whatever they can take along with the copper piping.

They are like cancer and should be removed from society and locked away.
