Doesn't seem to work for me. Do you think the site is overloaded ?

Bruce R Leech - 11-21-2008 at 08:00 AM

that site must be very busy I cant get in

capt. mike - 11-21-2008 at 08:01 AM

if you don't have the log in info for the spot tracker you are trying to follow it won't work.

capt. mike - 11-21-2008 at 09:44 AM

Here is the Weathermanlink... I am hearing him right now... along with 'local' (Spanish) using that frequency: http://www.race-dezert.com/radio/

Too bad, the page SCORE gave for the GPS Tracking does not fully open for me either... I will look for another link.

The Trophy Trucks and all other non-motorcycle classes start beginning at 10:30-10:45 this morning... all the bikes have left Ensenada.

i am going there now.
the BFG relay link still says server down. Wild Bill is on that truck i talked to him by email .

capt. mike - 11-21-2008 at 12:57 PM

BFG still down.
and i can't get WX Man to load...drag.

David K - 11-21-2008 at 01:12 PM

I am listening to Weatherman, no problema... make sure your pop up blocker is off to allow it to load...

Found the map!!

David K - 11-21-2008 at 01:20 PM

Here is the link: http://irctracking.com/2008/Baja1000/

capt. mike - 11-21-2008 at 02:10 PM

according to race-dez it is about having firefox and something about another program flash 9.
i am not going to mess with all that - my system works with 99% of the live linked stuff out there as is. my guess it is server overload.
but i got Wild Bill on ok and listening to him now. I sent him an email and he acknowledged it on the live feed. that was kind of neat.

Von - 11-21-2008 at 02:41 PM

Thank David finally got it!

bajalou - 11-21-2008 at 03:14 PM

I've been watching the IRC and listening to weatherman since about 7am.

capt. mike - 11-21-2008 at 03:16 PM

what is IRC??
i have wild Bill on now, pretty cool.

capt. mike - 11-21-2008 at 03:41 PM

Lou - i have the IRC up, ok and am tracking my vehicles ok.
but no WX Man....i can hear wB and Elana great!

David K - 11-21-2008 at 04:46 PM

Weatherman radio is quit busy... unfortunately multiple transmissions as not all can hear each other.

Truck on fire... Trophy Truck #16 (3:46pm)

David K - 11-21-2008 at 04:54 PM

At 3:49 pm PST: Trophy Trucks spread out from the leader near Borrego Wash (1st Hwy. 3 Xing) Truck #8 back to Hwy. 2 at the Laguna Salada exit (Truck 77, Robby Gordon)...

capt. mike - 11-21-2008 at 06:34 PM

Bruce R Leech - 11-21-2008 at 07:48 PM

those links work good. thanks David

David K - 11-21-2008 at 09:47 PM

Have fun Bruce! Are you heading to the finish line later for the Trophy Trucks arrival?

David K - 11-21-2008 at 10:22 PM

2 Trophy Trucks have passed through Santo Tomas by 9:15... less than 100 miles to go!

Roger Norman (#8) first and B.J. Baldwin (#97) second.

David K - 11-21-2008 at 10:27 PM

Class 1 leader appears to be #101 Chuck Dempsey, about RM 483 (coming down towards San Vicente) at 9:25 pm

Sharksbaja - 11-21-2008 at 10:41 PM

You da man DK. What a cool thang to watch,. Look at their speeds!

Looks like #71 is WAAAY lost!:o

David K - 11-21-2008 at 11:42 PM

Okay, maybe my last post tonight for those who cannot get the live GPS map up... Trophy Trucks #8 and #97 have passed OJOS NEGROS and on the final 30 miles to the finish! This is about 10:30pm PST Friday.

Now remember, the racers are racing against the clock not each other, and each class is a seperate 'race' so there are several winners (one per class).

The Class 11 pure stock VW beetles have yet to reach the halfway point at this time... So, the race will go well into tomorrow.

It was sure fun to 'watch' the race from home and listen to the Weatherman radio to 'hear' the action.

Bad booby trap at Erendira is causing problems...

Thanks Corky!

Have fun everyone!

Here are photos & videos of the finish line along with race photos: http://www.off-road.com/dirtsports/cathome/catHome15.jsp?cat...

Just listening to weatherman you can tell he lost his cool as the race progressed because of all of the bonehead questions he was asked and the people that were talking over him. It was very interesting. I wouldn't want his job at all....

About 12:30 a.m. as I was driving home from east Ensenada towards centro it was getting very foggy. About 1/10 of a mile visibility in places.

I'm a little bummed the Volkswagen trophy truck didn't make it past Ojos Negros this morning. I really wanted to see it finish. There is always next year.

capt. mike - 11-22-2008 at 07:42 AM

it's been a great race. Still listening to WB and Elana broadcast on BFG race relay 12.
up all night from the top of the mountain where they're camped on Mt. Diablo.

Von - 11-22-2008 at 08:17 AM

Cool stuff !!!

David K - 11-22-2008 at 09:25 AM

Larry Roeseler/ Roger Norman (#8) win Trophy Truck class

Robby Bell/ Johnny Campbell win on their bike.

It's all on the Dirt Sports web pages, with videos at the finish line last night: http://www.off-road.com/dirtsports/cathome/catHome15.jsp?cat...

bent-rim - 11-22-2008 at 11:25 AM

Why are the Trucks considered the overall winner when the Bikes have a better time?

capt. mike - 11-22-2008 at 01:09 PM

i'm no expert here but if memory serves - the best time is the overall winner each race, sometimes it is a TT , class 1 or bike.
i think the bikes get it most years but didn't Post riviera TT get winner overall last years 40th run to cabo?

bent-rim - 11-22-2008 at 02:02 PM

The bikes beat the trucks by almost 11 1/2 minutes this year.

And what was so different in the past years?

David K - 11-22-2008 at 10:41 PM

As I mentioned before... it really is several races going on at the same time... Every class has a winner (fastest time) and there are many, many classes.

Open cc Motorcycles usually have the fastest time and are the true 'Overall' winners... But, the 4 wheeled racers are more popular and easier to see the difference between them (bikes all 'look the same' to the armchair spectator). Trophy Trucks or Class 1 unlimited open wheel racers are usually the fastest four wheeled overall winners.

So, there are fastest 'overall motorcycles' and fastest 'overall race cars' mentioned as two distinct types of off road racers.

ncampion - 11-23-2008 at 08:25 PM

The bikes nearly always win overall time, yet the trucks get all the attention. They keep making the course more "friendly" for the trucks with many high speed sections where they can really make up time at 120+. Think how much harder the bikes have it with no one to navigate and their marigh for error much narrower.
