Parade for Revolution Day in Asuncion

shari - 11-21-2008 at 08:56 AM

This is my favorite holiday here with the parade and evening of delicious traditional food and entertainment. Booths are decorated with palm fronds, people dress up in costume and food is cooked over open fires as in the days of the revolution. The whole town turns out for this family event. I love the kindergarden kids who sing and dance.
I did notice there were much fewer pistoleros this year..lots of mustached boys but less guns and ammo...perhaps a reflection of the times. I love it that even the babies get to be in the parade...check out this tiny revolutionario.
Here is a link to a photo album of the parade...the children are so lovely. Many of you will recognize our nephew Noe on his new horse too.
