Asuncion Fishing Report...tuna bite wide open still

shari - 11-21-2008 at 09:31 AM

WARNING; FISH PICTURE!!! DONT LOOK IF YA DONT LIKE....

That being said..onto the fish report...this week has been exceptional for fishing here...light breeze only, calm seas, excellent visability and fish everywhere!! The big yellowfin and yellowtail are only a half a mile offshore between san roque and san pablo...yesterday they even had a marlin jumping around the boat chasing sardines!!! very close to shore too.
As usual Juan is tiring out his clients with double hookups all morning...limiting out before lunch easily with 20-50 lb tuna and nice yellowtail too....and keeping me busy making sashimi platters and stuffed yellowtail.
Nomad lurker WAlt from San Diego came on his dirt bike to fish with Juan and was not disappointed. Hope you come out of the closet to post amigo....I chose this photo for the gals on nomad....nice fish and good lookin fisherman too huh!

Shari - what is the story on that Akonis (SP)? hotel project?
is it real? looks nice if it would happen. i know you have a great B&B but there really isn't much in the way of nice beach front hotels there right?

shari - 11-21-2008 at 10:07 AM

I'm not sure what is happening there, lots of rumours though that I would rather not repeat...work has been stopped for months now so looks like it is on hold. It would be nice to have a beach hotel here for sure...we were looking forward to frequenting the palapa bar/restaurant.
We are currently working on plans for a nice beachfront lodge we will begin building in the new year....si dios quiere!!!

capt. mike - 11-21-2008 at 10:12 AM

sounds great!!! i would rather stay at your lodge any day.
plus with the good airport you have, i guarantee you will get flyers in but they want a nice place to stay. especially in the warm summer you will get guys that want out of the desert.

What we specialize in is personal service...exclusive service with baja style hospitality so we are planning a small all inclusive lodge...with around 6 or eight rooms of varying descriptions with a commons room where we can all hang out and dining room for guests where Juan's sisters will delight guests with fresh seafood and mexican delicacies....of course with airstrip pickup....it has been a dream of ours for some time and we look forward to bring it into reality...poco a poco

i'll be a 1st and regular customer for something like that! how very cool - you can book flying groups.

We have really enjoyed our flyin guests...and today, Fish Head from Chivato hooked a monster tuna that even broke his rod which was really skookum...he was laughing about it and loved every minute of it...they got into an outrageous school of big tuna in the middle of a bunch of dolphins and limited out in a very short time....took em longer to clean the fish than it did to catch em....hahahah

Fresh wild caught tuna was at Sam's Club today in Colorado and was $13.26 a pound. :o:o:o

Great picture Shari. Oh I do hope the tuna stick around for another month.

Marlin!!!! Are you thinking what I'm thinking? I would die to see one tied to Juan's panga. That would be the cats meow. :bounce:

hey baitcast...well done on the meaning of skookum...so I guess it's not a canuck saying then? maybe pacific northwest? or is it just a mariners term perhaps? At any rate...skookum has been part of my vocabulary since I can remember.....FYO skookum chuck is even MORE skookum!
I forgot to mention that Fish Head actually landed that big tuna that broke his rod...I'm waiting for the photos of him with the fish and busted skookum rod.

baitcast - 11-22-2008 at 06:08 AM

 Skookum has been around as long as I can remember, all my kin used it," you are one skookum kid" my uncle said and I was so proud:lol:
Maybe it is a northwest thing.
Rob

I grew up using Skookun too and that was So.Cal. I think there is a town or river in Washington called Skookum Chuck. May just referring to a guy named Chuck
Edit to add site for skookum: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skookum

a fresh tuna (whole) at "vons grocery store" in california last year was just under $200 usa:light:

we didn't buy

Santiago - 11-22-2008 at 09:20 AM

The only possible explaination is that I grew up in Bakersfield....

The Sockeye run did not run up the rivers in BC this year, they headed north to Alaska where record numbers were caught. Biologists reported the waters were too warm off the Canadian coast and contrary to common wisdom, they migrated north to new streams with colder water. I mention this here because the affects of global warming my have a profound effect on fishing, some for the better. The brown Pelicans have returned to the Oregon Coast after many years absence. Marlin fishing off the Oregon Coast , in the future? Seed oysters have been dying off the Oregon coast due to bacteria, a result also of higher temperatures and lost marsh grasses according to some.

Keep up the posts Shari, it is always a pleasure to keep up with what is happening there and of course I love the fish pics.
