Alarming Situation In Canada

motoged - 11-21-2008 at 10:42 AM

Nomads,
This is nOT a hoax....it is for real !!! A large number of Canadians (some of whom are Nomads) are apparently stocking up on supplies in their current mad rush to leave the country.

Due to severe economic crises at home and abroad, some are giving up all hope for a happy holiday season at home and are telling others that the only way they can survive this downturn is to head to Baja where they can panic in a more pleasant locale.

Canadian fish tacos are said to be nowhere near the quality of those in almost any taco stand south of Tecate, and the price of cerveza is included in that market evaluation.

While some dispute the logic in such travel in these difficult financial times, others maintain that it is not a "bailout", but an investment in restructuring their fundamentals...:light:

"Tightening purse strings is one way to get through this.", reported one Canuck as he loaded up his dirt bike for the Trail of Tears south. "It's a shame to leave the snow-shovelling to my neighbours.", said another.

Please be aware that such an exodus may only be temporary.:no::O:no:

:lol::lol:

Good thing I'm not a Canadian. Every time I tighten my belt the tacos find the escape route more quickly.:o:coolup::cool: Poor Canadians must be all cramped up and in a lot of pain. :rolleyes::P:lol:

I am always amazed that your supplemental "out of country" health insurance doesn't prohibit more of you guys to travel abroad.:P:P
Must be lots of "well to do" Kanucks.:?:

Love that social medicine.:no:

Timo1 - 11-21-2008 at 11:25 AM

:?::?::?::?::?::?::?::?:

Waddya mean?

I pay $58 per month as a single 57 year old male for provincial health coverage. That allows me to see a Dr. on occasion, pay for all my own medication, canes, crutches (for when I break a leg or get my knees done)...and for surgery if I need it "IN CANADA"....no health coverage for me when I am out of Canada...I would have to pay at a US hospital if I ended up in one....some potential costs might be recovered through provincial or extended private health plan....

As a self-employed person, I pay $170 a month for private "extended health" coverage that provides short and long-term disability, 10 massage, 10 chiropractor visits (if needed), and gives some rebate on a small list of prescriptions (which I hardly ever need)....

So, if that means I am rolling in the fat of a pinko socialist system, so be it.

I think some USA folks have a misunderstanding about how our health care system works....but come up by the busloads to buy less expensive prescriptions.... it may be that there is something wrong with your medical system

I understand that the US medical coverage system is technically very good, but is not very good when compared to other countries when discussing terms of financial coverage.

But this is not a post about medical care systems....but a jest at a Baja trip.

I know there are some wealthy Canadians, but I certainly am not one if one speaks of financial wealth....but a month in Baja every second or third year makes me wealthy in other terms.

I used to think an Airstream with a palapa was my retirement plan, but as the world changes, so does that fantasy.

Two weeks before the truck and trailer is loaded for three Canucks head down....tacos and dirtbiking....now THAT is being wealthy....:light::lol::saint:

You can say anything you like in the off-topic forum ...

Otherwise keep it Baja related ....

CaboRon

and now it seems you have a reading disability as well.

methinks the folks were talking about departing their frigid home and heading for Baja,
(if I got that wrong, please correct me)

meanwhile, try to be nice, or just stay in your room

por favor...:yes::yes::yes:

I think your take was right on bajarunner. Me thinks someone might be disillusioned, cranky and irritable... maybe time to go home?? Sounds like it was a very hot and uncomfortable summer!!!!

bajasol - 11-25-2008 at 03:34 AM

most wealthy folks; Canadian or American are all busy slipping their money from their off shore accounts into pillows and mattresses. Like Canadian via Vancouver Jimmy Patterson. How is he gonna pay for the electrical bill (Hydro bill) on his house in the British Properties for this holiday season??? :lol:

You are absolutely right .... It was a rotten summer here in Todos Santos .... I was sick for three months ... heat and humidity do not mix well with diabetes .... and after the beautiful winter here I will be moving back to the states on May first .... now that I have gone through the summer I intend on enjoying the winter here ... I have learned that the smart ones are those who leave for northern climes in the summer ....

Good, that means more fish tacos for me next July!

CaboRon - 11-26-2008 at 06:17 AM

Oxxo,

They are all yours :lol:

ckiefer - 11-26-2008 at 09:07 AM

Not so alarming, most snowbirds leave for Baja during the winter months anyhow. Saves on the heating bill.

CaboRon - 11-26-2008 at 02:53 PM

I noticed many of the really big RVs and '5th wheels' passing through Todos Santos today ...
