What is that, some kind of disguised cell phone tower ? If not, it is
remarkable!!!mulegemichael - 11-26-2008 at 10:25 PM
fab, shari, it's almost like someone carved it!Russ - 11-27-2008 at 05:52 AM
That is something! Barbareno - 11-27-2008 at 06:24 AM
Oh boy, now I will be looking for it on our way down. Can you give a hint? Left or right side, going north or south?
I will be on the look out for it. That and bike riders.

That's a very good omen, Shari.
For you, Juan, and Sirenita (the tail comes to 3 points). However, one will be particularly favored. Probably Juan. It is a whale after all.DianaT - 11-27-2008 at 09:16 AM
Good sighting---that is one interesting cactus
Dianeshari - 11-27-2008 at 10:51 AM
OK...first hint...it is between ensenada and bahia asuncion on the left if you are coming south but I dont think you can see it from the highway. I
will give a prize to the first nomad who spots it.jorgie - 11-27-2008 at 02:05 PM
stipulate the prize ......if it's a day fishing with Juan the desert will be a sea of cactus seekers........woody with a view - 11-27-2008 at 02:42 PM

nah, probably something lame like all the abalone and lobster you can eat, washed down with all the pitahaya margaritas you need.
if THAT doesn't cover the desert with cactus hounds, THEN the fishing trip might get thrown in...shari - 11-28-2008 at 08:17 AM
I'm thinkin a framed print of this fabulous desert whale...AND all the lobster ya can eat! washed down by the daily c-cktail special.David K - 11-28-2008 at 10:46 AM

Talked with a Ranger in Arizona who was out taking pictures of a cactus that looked liked that.
When I asked what he was doing, he said those type of cactus are so rare and valuable, that they photograph them and tag them. They also mark their
location with a GPS receiver.
Because the one we were looking at was in National Forest, granted it was a cactus forest, he said that landscapers will come in with a spade truck
and night and steal them.
Said they tracked one all the way to Vegas where they fined the company that had paid something like $15,000 for it
Then arrested the company that planted it for them. I think it's called a Crown Cactus or something like that and is really rare.
Cool photo thoughBarry A. - 12-8-2008 at 02:53 PM

I don't know if you or the Nomads know that Earle Stanley Gardner was the author of the Perry Mason books.
Another useless fact that will get you a free beer in a trivia battle.
DianaT - 12-9-2008 at 10:37 AM
Another rare cactus---the attack cactus who seek out those who wear Birkenstocks in the desert.
Rare because most people don't wear sandals in the desert.
If it had been cold, I would have been more protected by socks.

The Perry Mason TV show royalties is how Erle financed all those great Baja explorations of the 60's...
Please see this web site I made for Choral Pepper's photos of the Erle Stanley Gardner trips to Baja: http://choralpepper.com
This site is also linked from my site (VivaBaja.com)

Aren't those called camel toes? I think we have been trekking in the
desert too long.
