We bought this bottle in August 2007 and put in the wine cooler and kind of forgot about it. We did not particualy like the whites we tasted but we
must of liked this as we bought it. Anyway, we opened it this week and it was quite good - we are generaly cheap wine drinkers ($15 is a lot to spend
for us) so I'm assuming it must be in this range. The winery is a few miles west of L.A. Ceto and about a mile north of the highway as I remember.
It's a blend of cab and syrah.lingililingili - 11-28-2008 at 07:41 AM

Thanks for the heads up Santiago, nothing like a delicious red.capt. mike - 11-28-2008 at 07:54 AM
was this one $15?
for all you $2 buck charlie fans....WalMart is selling some joy juice called Oak Hill in all three most common varietals for $1.97 a bottle.
so i picked up a few while getting meds at the pharmacia there Wed.
surprize!!! the Cab was quite good altho can't say if it will be consistent (charlies is NOT so i never get it) having opened only 2 botles. I am
going back today for a case or 2 at that price - only the Cab tho.
the chard was bitter and high acid, fruit masked. the merlot had a phunny after taste.
but - the cab was better than any boxed or most other 1.5 liter jumbo name i can recall from recent memory.
if you have walmarts try it.lingililingili - 11-28-2008 at 08:02 AM

We'll check it out. Our WalMart here in La Paz had it's grand opening yesterday and did not want to go anywhere near there!vandenberg - 11-28-2008 at 09:03 AM

The Wine at Wal Mart is OAK LEAF
We buy it often! The Pino Grigio is very good in our opinion. We are not Red wine drinkers so will not speak for that! We liked the Chardonay also.
You cannot buy this at Wal Mart in Mexico as it would then be an Import which would lkly be much more dinero. The $1.97 is a great price. We buy wine
to our taste not to how much it costs tho $15 a bottle would be somewhat high in the stores tho we sometimes pay more in resturants & bars. OAK
LEAF is a good everyday wine tho!
Good thing Meme is here to correct ya !

You must have had a few bottles under yur belt when you wrote this ??
Fairly decent swill if I can say so --for $1.97/ bottle you can't beat it !!

Mi esposa has corrected me. Apparently, what we would normally spend for a bottle of wine at the winery can not be relied on as in this case the
woman selling said wine wore a dress about 2 or 3 sizes too small and I would have spent anything in order to get a closer look. I suspect she's
right.....Iflyfish - 11-28-2008 at 08:03 PM
I'm just dying to shop at WalMart.
Two buck chuck is unreliable, varies by vintage, buy one and try it, take it back if you don't like it.
For about $8 it is hard to beat Columbia Crest, Syrah, Chard and Cab.
Iflyfish
ditto on Columbia Crest

good stuff for the pricecapt. mike - 11-29-2008 at 08:23 AM
Ahh.....yes Bob - i had some but my severe case of CSR kicked in again...
thx meme on that, Oak Leaf it was.
in fact i am off to the Megalo Mart today to score more in the handy 12 packs, it's a neat little box. about 14" square!
Iflyfish - columbia Crest is certainly a huge fav of mine. we flew into their private airport along the gorge a few years back touring WA wine country
and got a VIP tour and tasting. i keep a nice lot of CC on hand always.Alan - 11-29-2008 at 08:29 AM
I was hoping this was about good wines available in Baja? Lots of labels I'm not familiar with at CCC and was hoping for some clues and suggestions.lingililingili - 11-29-2008 at 08:49 AM
I just noticed that L.A. Cetto makes a Zinfandel. Since Zinfandel and Pinot Noir are my two top favorites, I wonder if anyone has tried it?bajabound2005 - 11-29-2008 at 09:08 AM
Don't buy Mexican Zin no matter who the winemaker is...every one we've tried is very sweet. More like a dessert wine than a table wine. We have 2
cases of Bibyoff if anyone dare try it.bajadock - 11-29-2008 at 10:57 AM
Bibayoff zin might work in a red sauce recipe. David Bibayoff jokes that he has a new master distributor in Punta Banda.
I like it when an old thread comes out from a new author, as there may be new ideas from veterans and fresh opinions from new minds.
After 2 years here, I still have not found a good value in mex wine. My definition of wine value is in the less than $10/bottle category.
Recommendations welcome! ???
It's why I use SoCal Trader Joe's mexican import service every time I'm in USA. capt. mike - 11-29-2008 at 12:23 PM
i have done the Cetto ZINs both at the tasting room and purchased in baja and at SD Wine Bank store - and it was good to very good each time.
i like a lot of fruit explosion in my zin but not too much sweetness.
one thing i found is try decanting and then an hour rest it will bring out softness.bajabound2005 - 11-29-2008 at 03:59 PM
trust me, we've tried that Bibayoff every possible way (a group of bought the entire barrel), there is no hope for it.lingililingili - 11-30-2008 at 07:36 AM
Not a Baja wine but last night we opened a bottle of Santa Rita, Reserva
Estate Grown, Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile and it was very delicious.
We bought this at City Club in La Paz. I think it was around $120.00, next time we are there I'm definitely picking up some more. It was on the dry
side and I like that.1000lbBlue - 11-30-2008 at 11:16 AM
If you want to try a really delicious Cab for under 10 bucks look into Penfolds of Australia. The koonga hill series went on sale here for 8 bucks.
Dry and crisp and full flavored. Blows the santa rita reserva out of the water for the price.Marie-Rose - 11-30-2008 at 04:52 PM

I just had some columbia crest cab. Yechhhh! It tasted like a bad Pinot Noir. I'm going Italian! The Gull - 12-4-2008 at 05:08 AM
I have finally located people who actually buy and drink the swill that is sold below $15/bottle.
Do you buy Tequila in the giant plastic beehive container, too?
Wow, measuring the quality of wine that is priced below the cost of the container and shipping, is certainly what the Wine Spectator and Robert Parker
should be aware of.capt. mike - 12-4-2008 at 06:18 AM
there are plenty of good tasting, good quality wines even at $10 or less. Wine Spectator is the 1st to admit that price and quality often have no
direct correlation.
and Parker is a pin head.Santiago - 12-4-2008 at 09:44 AM
