We have never shopped at Ley's in La Paz but on our way to Aqua Verde we did do a fairly major shop at Ley's in Ciudad and were quite impressed with
their quality, selection and prices. Everything was certainly MUCH cheaper than in TS.
On the way home we stopped again and bought a filet of beef (tenderloin) aprox 70 pesos and it was a VERY generous portion for 2... hubby is a heavy
meat eater, a large porterhouse type steak, aprox 60 pesos and a med whole chicken, aprox 3 or 4 pounds, for 60+ pesos.
The tenderloin was incredibly tender with a spice rub and done on the bar b que... you could cut it with your fork. The steak was much the same and
the chicken was also delicious.

We usually make a monthly run to Ley's in Constitution. We stock up on beef, pork, liver and chicken. Filettes at 160 pesos is a great buy since
there's no waste/fat. We abstain from the steaks, usually tough, even being from Sonora. While there, we buy lots of produce and dairy products, like
yoghurt, at a lot lower price then Loreto. The french style bread, plus other bakery stuff are better buys also, many not available here. Those much
lower prices pay for the cost of the gas ten times over. Besides we go there for a lot of my wife's ceramic stuff, so 2 birds with the one stone.
Lately, we discovered filettes at the Sunday market here. Not as tender as the Sonora ones but, being regional beef, have great flavor and at 100

When they first opened the Super Ley on the south side of Ensenada, it was a destination market. Great selection, helpful employees. Within a few
months it took a serious turn for the worse. The last time I went in there it smelled so badly of rotten fish, I put my selections down and haven't

I know of Ciudad Insurgentes and Ciudad Constitucion. The latter has a Ley's, as mentioned by Vandenburg, a pretty good store. But really out of the

Ley was the place to be avoided. Both of them in La Paz (5 de Mayo and Olachea), 2 years ago when I first went shopping there:
1) Dirty, sticky floors
2) Produce was dirty, in disarray.
3) Check-out lines were long and slow
4) Hard to pay with debit card. Had to wait and wait for approval as if to discourage its use
5) Smelly fish/meat section
................................................but,,,, their prices were the best.. still, I avoided them and went to CCC or Soriana instead. Quality
and service over price. However, since Wallmart announced their imminent arrival, Ley started cleaning their act and things have definitely improved.
I have been back there a couple of times and they have kept it up. I hope they remain consistent.
On the other hand, I was not impressed with the new La Paz Walmart at all. I have not done a comparison 'cause I don't go to CSL that frequently, but

While I love the Ley's in Constitucion, the one here in San Jose stinks...literally. I still buy fried chicken there but not much else. Their
produce has gone down hill and I cant even walk by the meat/seafood dept...yuck. I also noticed on my last fried chicken run that their prices were

I was referring to Cuidad Constitution.
We stop there at least twice each year; to and fro La Ventana.
I also like that the police are friendly in town.
Here is my little story from 2 years ago;
Almost Arrested in Cuidad Constitution
As we headed south through Baja, my wife excercised (exorcised?) her shopping devils wherever she could, as usual. Unfortunately (fortunately?), this
time, she was flying home with the kids instead of making the trip back north with me. Before she flew out, she decided that there were a few of those
shopped items that she wanted me to pick up on the way home. Oh joy, red placemats from SuperAmerica in Cuidad ! Gotta have 'em !!
Being the faithful servant husband that I am (yea,yea), I pull into Cuidad looking for a parking space for all 44' of truck and trailer. Better yet,
it is hot so I need a space in the shade for the dogs in the back of the truck. Round and round I go and finally a shady space opens up. I park and
run into SuperAmerica for my red placemats.
I knew they were in there somewhere; I had seen them a few weeks before.....finally, I found them, paid and ran back out to the truck.
Did I mention that the trailer was not exactly fully pulled into the parking space ? and that part of it was hanging about 3' into the road ?
As I jumped into the truck, I was immediately approached and notified of this fact by two local police officers. The young lady officer had a very
serious look on her face. I pull out my best spanish and apologize for the oversite?. I try to explain that mi spousa flew home and MADE me stop to
buy these placemats.
Drivers License, please ! Oh crap !
She studies the license.......
"You are "Martin" ?" "He is Martin", pointing the the young male officer with her. She is still not smiling !
I say yes, commo se yama ?
She says Elizabeth. Still not smiling.
I then told her that if I don't bring home the red placemats, my wife will beat me.
Finally, she smiles and hands me back my license with a knowing glare. She is more woman than police officer, after all !! My wife got her red
placemats and is very happy.

We checked out one of the Ley's in La Paz last winter, and it was gross. Someone said the other smaller, newer one is better, but I don't know what
street either is on. I really like CCC there. I buy my veggies at the Sunday market in Loreto as a rule, but I do buy good leaf lettuce when I see
it elsewhere.

Maybe you are smelling the Mexicali Ley from miles away.
We have two Ley's near our place in Mexicali and both smell pretty bad inside. I wouldn't say it's rotten; but, well.. unappealing at the least.
Both places are generally not very well kept and tend to be in disarray.
I much prefer Calimax as they only sell food. (very good quality meats, fruits, veggies - no appliances, electronics, etc..) or Sorriana(like a very
clean Ley without the stench)
I used to shop at Gigante a lot..because it was very close to our place; but, they were bought out by Sorriana. The old Gigante store is not nearly
as nice as the other Sorriana stores, even after being remodeled.
